Weight no obstacle for Lawful Leader

JACK MILNER
LAWFUL LEADER has been carrying 60kg or more in all of his last seven starts so the 63kg with which he has been burdened in Race 2 at Flamingo Park this afternoon should be of little concern.
As this 2200m race is a Pinnacle Plate Lawful Leader comes in extremely well weighted against the other five challengers. In his last seven races Peter Miller’s charge has won four races and finished second on the other three occasions.

He has contested seven races over the course and distance and has won six with one second. That second was to stable companion Shergars Quest, who looks the only danger to Lawful Leader. But although he does boast a couple of victories over Lawful Leader late last year, the five-year-old Kahal gelding has been thrashed by the Brazilian-bred runner on three other occasions. Shergars Quest is also 3.5kg out at the weights so he should have little chance of reversing the form here.
As so often happens in these Flamingo Park races, Miller has four of the six runners and he could well claim the Trifecta if Best Evidence can run into third. Two runs back he was narrowly beaten by Grand Gallery over the course and distance but followed that up with a shocker when running 12 lengths behind Rambo Colours.

He only has 50.5kg to shoulder, courtesy of the 1.5kg allowance claimed by apprentice Andrew Nienaber.
Trainer Vernon Rugg has been having a good run since moving to Kimberley and could chalk up another winner with Bongo Muffin in Race 7, a MR 60 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1200m. She coasted home345 by 4.25 lengths in her first outing over the course and distance and could follow up today.
