IMPORTANTISIMO can overcome a few hurdles and appeals as a potential betting proposition in Race 7 at Greyville, a MR 98 Handicap over 1600m.

The Argentine-bred has only raced three times, never at the same track. He will be making his comeback following a 264-day rest and Mike de Kock’s stable jockey Anthony Delpech is carded to ride Sean Tarry-trained Mr Top, instead of the stable runner. So Importantisimo will be ridden by Kelvin Jupp, the third jockey to partner him in a race.

However, he has natural speed and his connections will be pleased with his No 1 draw.

Importantisimo drifted from 18-10 to 8-1 in his debut over 1200m at Scottsville. He lost ground at the start but ran on well for fourth, 3.25 lengths behind Notforpublication, who has subsequently won another two races from seven starts.

He next ran over 1600m at Clairwood where he was heavily backed and duly obliged, scoring by 3.25 lengths from Officer Wales after again losing ground at the start.

In his latest run over 1600m at Turffontein (inside), Piere Strydom had the colt out of the gates in a flash but Importanisimo weakened late after setting a good pace. He finished a three-length third behind Chase the Cheers. He cast a shoe in running that day, which must have affected his performance, and is sure to improve on the run.

The De Kock stable usually brings horses back match fit and with a light weight, Importantisimo looks sure to give a good account of himself.

Another one-time winner, Red Lucifer, will also not be ridden by his regular stable rider, Anton Marcus. The master jockey was down to ride Kingdom Come, who has been scratched from the race. Red Lucifer is carded to be ridden by capable lightweight Karl Zechner and looks sure to run another honest race.

Topweight Hilgrove is the class act in the line-up and on his best recent runs behind the likes of River Jetez and Desert Links, who both performed well in the Vodacom Durban July, he must be afforded utmost respect. He has loads of ability but never seems to do quite enough to find the frame lately and could battle under the welter burden of 62kg.

Solar Orbit, who will be ridden by in-form Raymond Danielson, is a recent winner of a 1600m Scottsville (inside) race and could be a factor with a good early pace.
