Ken Nicol: Glen Kotzen’s big horse Gold Standard made a most encouraging return to racing when a little unlucky to only finish fourth in the Matchem almost two months ago.
“He has come on a lot from that run, and put up an excellent gallop last week. It’s a big challenge on Saturday, but we are confident he will be up to it, and will be highly competitive. He has beaten Edict Of Nantes both times they previously met,’’ was the verdict on the Trippi colt’s chances in Saturday’s Grade 2 WSB Green Point Stakes.
The stable also have a trio in the Grade 1 WSB Fillies Guineas. Elusive Heart seems the stable elect with Richard Fourie – hardly surprising as she is the only filly to have lowered the colours of favourite Snowdance.
“Her last race was all wrong – she raced five wide, and they crawled and turned it into a sprint. She will appreciate the mile and the long run in of the Kenilworth summer course and will put up a bold showing’’ was the message.
Too Phat To Fly is “consistent, and will be running on from a good draw. She would have been third in another couple of strides last time, and shouldn’t be ignored’’.
Princess Peach ran poorly the only previous time she went beyond sprints. “She should stay a mile on pedigree, and we are cautiously optimistic’’ was the guarded endorsement of this one.
As for his runners for the rest of the day, Glen felt that Wings Of Honour in the last was his best chance. “She only hit her stride late last time over 1200, and 1400 from a good draw is right up her alley. She should go very close’’.
