Larry Foley: Singapore – The new season has seen some changes at the Singapore Turf Club and, with a rating hike for all raced horses, Class 3 events have become the contests to watch to see if up-and-coming horses can go through the grades.
A case in point is former Australian SUN DREAM who won well in Class 4 at his Singapore debut before finding trouble at his next two starts.
This four-year-old finds himself in what looks a winnable Class 3 field (Race 6), and with CC Wong steering from gate 4 he should have every chance as he steps up to 1400m.
Likewise, connections of SHOQEET will be hoping he is better than Class 3. His trainer, J Saimee, has earmarked him for a crack at the Singapore Four-Year-Old Series and, after winning over 2000m in KSC Company last start, he is certainly a horse to follow to the Derby.
However, the four-year-old had to pull out all stops to beat GOLAZO on that occasion and the five-year-old Japanese-bred gelding gets a 2kg pull in the weights to make this race (7) a must see with a busy finish likely.
