De Kock loads up for Guineas

NOBLE SECRET

A power-packed field is likely to line up for the Grade 2 Gauteng Guineas on Saturday March 3. The 23 entries announced on Monday for the race – the first Highveld leg of the Triple Crown – include no fewer than eight highly rated three-year-olds from the Mike de Kock stable.

The master trainer also has five among the 23 hopefuls for the Fillies Guineas on the same card.

Noble Secret, an impressive winner of his warm-up race at Turffontein on Saturday, is part of the De Kock arsenal, as is the runner-up in that race, Alshibaa.

Mustaaqeem, winner of the Grade 1 SA Nursery last year but a disappointing fourth in his prep run last week, is another De Kock possible, though he drew the widest starting gate of all. Alshibaa drew 14 and Noble Secret 9.

Shock Dingaans winner Monks Hood, who followed up with an impressive victory at Scottsville on Sunday, once again raids for KwaZulu-Natal trainer Alistair Gordon. He drew 7.

Paul Peter’s unbeaten colt Majestic Mambo is in the mix at No 11 gate, as are three youngsters from reigning national champion trainer Sean Tarry: Big Bear, Wonderwall and Silver God.
