ANTHONY DELPECH

The National Horseracing Authority (NHA) has opened an inquiry into the incident which resulted in jockey Anthony Delpech coming off Majestic Mambo at around the 400m mark of the SA Classic at Turffontein on Saturday.

The National Horseracing Authority (NHA) has opened an inquiry into the incident which resulted in jockey Anthony Delpech coming off Majestic Mambo at around the 400m mark of the SA Classic at Turffontein on Saturday.

Delpech fell heavily when the 5-1 second favourite appeared to clip the heels of Greek Fire. Throng was on his inside at the time and appeared to be hanging out slightly. While Majestic Mambo continued running, Delpech was left concussed on the ground.

An update late Saturday evening from his agent Deez Dyanand said that all the x-rays returned clear, so hopefully his time on the sidelines will not be as long as originally feared.

On Sunday morning his wife Candice sent out a message.

“The love and support has been overwhelming. The last 14 hours have been a blur. I flew up last night. Anthony didn’t have the best night”.

“He is in agony, and it breaks my heart to see him in such pain. All scans are clear but he has pins and needles in his arms and legs, possibly nerve damage. He had a concussion. The doctors are keeping him in for a few days. We really both appreciate all the love and support”

Current champion jockey Delpech came down at around the 400m mark and lay prone on the turf until paramedics came to his aid. He was carried to the ambulance on a stretcher.

Delpech was rushed to hospital in a lot of pain. Thankfully he was conscious, and able to speak.
