White River to keep rolling on

Viv Greybe: Brett Crawford’s raider White River should claim top honours in the first of two Grade 3 contests over 1400m for three-year-olds at Greyville on Sunday when contesting Race 6, the R150,000 Byerley Turk.

This race is Leg 3 of the Pick 6 which starts with a Carryover of R750,000 and a pool estimated to reach R3 million.
White River followed up two wins with a bold close second in both the Selangor Cup (Grade 2) and the Forus Cape Guineas (Grade 1) over 1600m at Kenilworth.

He was not disgraced in his subsequent outing as he was badly away and finished sixth out of 15 in the 2000m Investec Cape Derby at the same course.

The colt should bounce back this time when stepping down in distance. His main rivals are Kasimir, Sand And Sea and Undercover Agent.

The fillies get their turn in Race 7, the Umzimkhulu Stakes, and the one who makes most appeal is top-rated Lady In Black (Sean Veale) from Dennis Drier’s stable.

This filly swept all aside in her first three outings – the last of which was the 1600m Thekwini Stakes (Grade 1).
Her subsequent three runs were at Kenilworth where she was unplaced after a three-month layoff, but followed up with two game runs when fourth in the Cape Fillies Guineas and second in the Paddock Stakes, both Grade 1 contests.

She is likely to come out primed and ready for a win and could be followed home by Desert Rhythm, Fish River and Elusive Heart.
