Viv Greybe: Though up against tougher opposition this time, Dennis Bosch-trained Hector Heathcote can continue his winning ways at the Greyville Polytrack on Sunday when teamed up with hot jockey Richard Fourie in Race 7, a MR 82 Handicap over 1400m.
This race is Leg 5 of the Pick 6, which starts with a carryover of R300,000 and is estimated to reach a pool of R1.7 million.
This speedy son of Pathfork showed his hand at Greyville with a gutsy close win in a 1000m Barrier Trial. Then heavily backed when switched to the Polytrack and ridden by Fourie, the three-year-old had his 10 rivals chasing shadows – winning by an increasing 4.5 lengths over 1600m. With 4kg less to shoulder and having the advantage of a favourable inside draw in this big field, he should have punters in the payout queue again.
Expect a challenge from Duncan Howells-trained novice Drageda (Craig Zackey) who was a smart maiden winner four runs back at Scottsville and has been holding form since. Rested for three months, the gelding returned with a promising close second in a Barrier Trial over 1000m. The three-year-old was not disgraced in his subsequent outing when competing in a 1200m MR 82 Handicap on the Polytrack, as he finished fourth despite being hampered in the final stages.
The pick of the remainder are Gunner, Minaloushe Venture and Mumsy’s Jet.
