Ken Nicol: Oh Susanna dug deep in the closing stages to score a third Group 1 win in succession when taking the Woolavington 2000 at Greyville on Saturday.
Fiorella had beaten other Snaith superstar filly Snowdance in the Daisy Fillies Guineas, and Muzi Yeni rode a clever tactical race, taking her to the front and setting a very sedate gallop.
Oh Susanna was pulling in the early stages, but settled down to race third behind Fiorella and the other top class filly in the race Lady In Black.
These three were the only ones who ever looked in with a chance of winning this, and settled down to battle it out from the 400m pole.
With 200 to go all three could still win but Oh Susanna’s class told late and she found a little extra to score by a half a length over Fiorella. Lady In Black was a neck further adrift in third.
It will be interesting to see if she takes her place in the Vodacom July, as pre race the Snaith’s were very non committal in this regard.
Lightly raced Miyabi Gold ran an absolute cracker to only be beaten just over two lengths into fourth, and is clearly one to follow.
