Trainer Brett Crawford can chalk up another KwaZulu-Natal feature race at Greyville on Friday night even though one of his two runners, favourite Sunset Eyes, has been scratched from the Grade 2 Post Merchants over 1200m.
After the race-day withdrawal, Crawford’s other runner, Black Cat Back, came in from 4-1 to 7-2 favouritism on the bookmakers’ boards.
Erstwhile Durban July hero Legislate, returning to the track after an absence of two years, was on offer at 15-4, with Computaform Sprint champ Attenborough third on the list at 6-1.
There is a Pick 6 carryover of R300,000 at the meeting and the pool is expected to reach R1.5 million.
One is always hoping for a big payout on these occasions so it could be worth adding in a few other runners in the Merchants.
Apart from the first three in the betting, it’s worth noting that Alec Laird would not be sending Pure Blonde down from the Highveld if he did not believe this son of Kahal had a chance. He is a 13-1 chance and with Randall Simons in top form it would not be wise to leave him out, even though this will be his first run at the coastal course.
