Fairview suits King Django

Viv Greybe: Five-year-old King Django, who was formerly trained in KwaZulu-Natal, has taken a liking to the Fairview Polytrack since joining Tara Laing’s stable and looks the one to beat at the venue on Monday.

He steps out with Chase Maujean again in Race 5, the top event, a MR 90 Handicap over 1900m.

This five-time winner was unplaced only once in his six starts on the Polytrack and that was on debut when finishing sixth. His next run at the venue was two runs later when a decisive winner over 1900m.

Then up in class, he followed up with an encouraging fourth and third.

Teamed up with Maujean next time, this entire made light of 60.5kg with a clear-cut win in a MR 76 Handicap over 1600m. Then taking on much stronger opposition with Maujean aboard again in his subsequent outing, he held form with a fast-finishing 0.80-length third in a MR 90 Handicap over 1600m on grass at Fairview. With 55kg on his back again and stepping up in distance he should be in the winner’s enclosure.

But expect a bold bid from Justin Snaith-trained six-time winner Grape Vine (60.5kg) with Teague Gould now aboard. This six-year-old comes off a much improved last run in tough company at the Polytrack where he ran on stoutly to finish runner-up in a MR 94 Handicap over 1900m.

However, do not rule out Yvette Bremner-trained 12-time winner All The Bids (52.5kg) with champion apprentice Lyle Hewitson up.

This six-year-old relished carrying a low weight in his penultimate outing when finishing third in a MR 92 Handicap over 1800m on grass at Fairview. The free-striding gelding is equally suited to the Polytrack where he won three times and was placed 13 times.

Next best are Golden Shamrock, Desert Chief, Road To Indy and Olympic Power.

Alan Greeff-trained Hashtagselfie (Greg Cheyne) looks a standout bet in Race 8, a MR 66 Handicap (F&M) over 1600m. Cheyne was aboard the three-year-old last time when she ran on stoutly from near last to fail by a short-head to stablemate Piera (received 4.5kg) over the course and distance.

A suggested TAB Quartet bet is to select Hashtagselfie to win with 1, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12 and 13.
