Treble for appy Sakayi

Apprentice jockey Khanya Sakayi landed a dream treble at Scottsville on Sunday.

The 4kg-claiming youngster kicked off his streak on six-year-old gelding Reactive for trainer Tony Rivalland in Race 4, a MR 79 Handicap over 1600m. He followed up on seven-year-old mare Miss Varlicious for Paul Gadsby in Race 5, a FM 76 over 1000m, then capped his unforgettable day with victory on Silver Cent for trainer Lola Crawford in the eighth, a 1400m MR 64.

These three successes were Sakayi’s first visits to the No 1 box in the new season and followed his 13 wins from 285 rides in the 2017/18 term.

Non-claiming apprentice Eric Ngwane was also on the mark at Scottsville, with a quick double in Races 6 and 7. After his success aboard Corinne Bestel-trained Blaze Of Silk, he powered home Roy’s Magic in the seventh for trainer Kom Naidoo.

These were Ngwane’s second and third wins for the season. He had 16 to his name in the previous log.
