Up-and-coming apprentice Luke Ferraris become the third jockey injured at the weekend when Sean Tarry-trained gelding Changing Seasons bolted with him aboard and barged through a railing before the running of the fourth race at Scottsville on Sunday.
Ferraris was taken to hospital for X-rays on a painful hip. The well-backed horse was scratched from the race and Ferraris stood down for the rest of the meeting.
On Saturday at Turffontein, apprentice Kabelo Matsunyane and jockey Wesley Marwing were both rushed to hospital after an accident before Race 3. Matsunyane was diagnosed with concussion and will miss a couple of weeks of racing, while Marwing suffered bruising to the base of the spine.
Their mounts, both long shots, were also scratched.
