Firefoot a warm order

Firefoot a warm order

Viv Greybe: Glen Kotzen-trained Firefoot was an unlucky runner-up last time at the Greyville Polytrack, where he had a bad start, but he could recoup losses at the same venue on Friday evening when teamed up with Anton Marcus in Race 2 – a Maiden Plate over 1800m.

The three-year-old was unlucky in his previous run over 1900m at the Polytrack as he had to avoid a faller 1200m out, but still managed to finish third. The gelding will be hard to beat this time when equipped with blinkers and having a favourable inside draw.

Forthelastime, Fire Island, All Aboard and Noble Joshua make most appeal of the remainder.

Andre Nel-trained Dance Off (Gareth Wright) has a bright chance to score in Race 3, a MR 72 Handicap over 2000m. This five-year-old has been threatening a third career win and there was much to like about his last run when he returned refreshed from a rest and ran on stoutly to finish an inspiring runner-up in a MR 72 Handicap over 1600m. He will be much fitter this time and could go one better over the extra distance.

Expect a challenge from the likes of The Sultans Bazaar, Emperor Niarchos and Forceful Rush.

Brett Crawford-trained Supreme Orator (Marcus) could have the edge in Race 5, a 1600m MR 72 Handicap. This four-year-old posted a gutsy third career win three runs back at Kenilworth over 1400m and followed up with creditable fifth at Durbanville. Coming off a rest, the gelding had Marcus aboard for the first time in his subsequent outing when making his KZN debut and finishing an encouraging 1.55-length fifth from a slow start over 1400m at the Polytrack.

His principal rivals are Bravo Bravo, Tour Of Duty, Geste and Epic Sword.

Marcus has a strong chance of success in Race 7 when teamed up with two-time winner Archilles who contests a 1200m MR 80 Handicap. This five-year-old was a creditable 2.85-length fifth with Eric Ngwane up last time over the course and distance. Marcus knows what is required, as earlier he had been aboard the gelding twice for a win and a second place.

Next best are Master Thief, Just Vogue, Essenceoflife, Cumulus and Our Moon Shadow.
