Dublin – Conditional rider EvanDaly has been cautioned by stewards after he was nearly struck by the field in the back straight while out running during Navan’s Grade 3 For Auction Novice Hurdle on Sunday.
Daly was listening to music on his headphones while running around the track in preparation for a ride later on the card.
But he was oblivious to the seven runners, who loomed overhis left shoulder, and only avoided being hit after last minute shouts from the riders made him swerve.
Michael O’Donoghue, a steward on duty at Navan on Sunday, said: “Evan has been cautioned. He was very embarrassed about the whole incident.
“He was out running and had his earphones in listening to music.
”He only heard the shouts at the last minute and jumped out of the way.”
The 3200m Grade 3 contest was won by the Willie Mullins trained Aramon, who on Sunday was a
top priced 33-1 for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. – www.racingpost.com
