Have a Laff at Greyville

Viv Greybe: Log-leading jockey Anton Marcus should have his followers in the payout queue at the Greyville Polytrack on Wednesday when teamed up with Paul Lafferty-trained Mokoko in Race 2, a 1400m Maiden Plate.

This three-year-old has been unplaced only once in his six starts – the last two of which were third-placed runs when sent off favourite with Marcus up at the Polytrack. The gelding has a bright chance to recoup losses this time when stepping up the distance.

Next best are White Cedar, Manolete and Dons Assembly.

Lafferty also has a good chance of success in Race 3 with Buckleberry who will have in-form Mark Khan aboard in a 1200m MR 80 Handicap over 1200m. This three-year-old justified cramped odds in his penultimate outing when an impressive 6.50-length maiden winner over 1000m at the Polytrack. The gelding was unlucky next time as he was bumped and squeezed out but still finished a 2.30-length fourth in a 1200m MR 88 Handicap at the same course.

His main rivals are So Var, Savea, Sea Urchin and Ronnie Rocket.

Follow Marcus in Race 6 when aboard Alyson Wright-trained Roy’s Physco who lines up in a 1900m Maiden Plate. The combination will be out on a retrieving mission after being heavily backed and finishing second over 1800m and 2000m. This Australian-bred four-year-old should be on target this time with a good inside draw.

The gelding could be followed home by Duke’s Dozen, Isikhetho, Net Work Jet and Jumping Castle.

Another bright prospect on the card is Lafferty-trained Victorious Man (Khan) who contests Race 7, a MR 66 Handicap over 1600m. The money was on the mark in the three-year-old’s penultimate run when winning out of the maidens fluently over the course and distance with Lyle Hewitson aboard. The colt was not disgraced in his subsequent outing when partnered by Khan and sent off at long odds and finishing third over the same course and distance, as he did not have a trouble-free run but was only a neck off the winner.

Making most appeal of the remainder are The Private, Noble Joshua, Sovereign Soldier, Space Merchant and South Paw.
