Day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival is likely to take place as planned on Wednesday afternoon.
Officials conducted a precautionary early-morning inspection – after announcing a contingency plan to postpone Wednesday’s card until Saturday – as a forecast for high winds threatened the programme.
The course was braced for “challenging” weather conditions, with winds predicted to reach about 70km/h.
However, clerk of the course Simon Claisse said on Wednesday morning: “We’re delighted weather conditions have changed from the initial forecasts and the prospect of higher wind speeds and gusts have receded. We’re looking forward to a fantastic day’s racing.”
The feature race is the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase in which Altior bids to match the Big Buck’s record of 18 successive jumps wins. – www.racingpost.com
