SALES TOPPER SOFT DAY
BLOODSTOCK SA’s 2019 Cape Yearling Sale turned over R9,275-million for 144 lots sold at the TBA Complex, Gosforth Park, on Sunday afternoon.
The overall yield and average price was well up on sales figures of 2018.
In a market that favoured small and medium buyers, top price of R360,000 was paid by Garth Puller for Lot 167, Soft Day, a filly by Soft Falling Rain. In all, 25 lots were auctioned off in the 100 – 200kl bracket and most others in the 40 – 100k range, ideal for buyers on a budget.
Trainer Paul Peter was the top buyer, securing 24 lots at an average of just over R42,000 per yearling acquired. New buyers included Suzette Viljoen and Desiree de Andrade.
Gary Grant of BSA commented: “This was a solid regional sale with an approximate 10% increase in average and a R5-million increase in aggregate to boost breeders’ cash flow. The sale offered great value for buyers, especially in view of BSA’s R60,000 added stakes bonus for all juvenile winners.
“BSA are well satisfied with the results ad we look forward to building this sale further.”
