Gavin Lerena maintained his fantastic recent form with four winners at the Vaal on Tuesday.
This haul came on top of a bag of five at the Turffontein holiday meeting on Thursday last week.
Lerena got off to a flying start at the Vaal, steering home first-timer True To Life for another man in top form, trainer Roy Magner.
In Race 5, he landed the spoils for Mike de Kock aboard Protea Paradise – after the trainer had scratched three other runners from the field.
It was again Magner greeting the former champion jockey in the No 1 enclosure after Race 7, in which Dancing Queen justified 26-10 favouritism with a one-length win.
Lerena bookended the meeting when he got home Certifiable in the lucky last for St John Gray – just edging out Magner’s flying outsider Shortstop.
So far this season Lerena has ridden 117 winners from 423 rides – for a win strike rate of 27.64%. He sits in third place on the championship log, behind Anton Marcus with 136 wins and Muzi Yeni with 133.
