Larry Foley: While there are plenty of nice races on the Sunday card in Singapore, an interesting novice field makes Race 7 the pick of the bunch.
While there are three last-start winners in the 10-horse field, some progressive three-year-olds in Mo Almighty, Toosbies and Federation should fight out the finish.
Of the trio, the colt Mo Almighty is in best at the race conditions and, given he just missed behind the smart Revolution at his only start on the Polytrack, he will probably start favourite and prove hard to beat.
However, Federation gets an important gear change, which suggests he is the improver and is the biggest danger to Mo Almighty.
This Written Tycoon gelding’s only win was on the Polytrack and a recent strong trial with blinker/pacifiers added could lead to a forward showing from gate No 2 with Glen Boss steering.
Do not discount Toosbies who, while disappointing last start, has also trialled strongly since and has to be some show on his excellent maiden win two starts back.
Elsewhere on the card, Yabadabadoo should send punters home happy in the lucky last race, as this four-year-old has found a very suitable race with gate 2 a huge factor.
Best Bets: (Federation Race 7, Win), (Yabadabadoo Race 9, Win) and (Lim’s Hunter Race 6, value).
Jackpot: Race 6 (2, 3 and 10), Race 7 (3, 5, 6 and 7), Race 8 (4, 7, 11 and 13), rRce 9 (1, 2, 3 and 7).
Selections; 1 OPTIMUM STAR – 9 HEAVENLY HAND – 5 DIAMOND KING – 12 LUCKY BOY
A typical Class 5 where none of the runners can be tipped with any confidence. OPTIMUM STAR has been running in better company and placed on turf three starts back. He is also better suited on the Polytrack with his last win in a KSD over this distance; the tongue-tie goes back on and with Marc Lerner to ride he should be hardest to beat. HEAVENLY HAND won in similar Class last start when resuming and carries the same weight here and with Benny Woodworth could repeat. LUCKY BOY has placed at his past two outings, is suited by this class and should be running on. DIAMOND KING was disappointing last start but was due prior and looks the only other with a winning hope on form. Betting Strategy – OPTIMUM STAR win.
1 OPTIMUM STAR *** Placed on turf three starts back but better suited on poly. Last win was KSD this distance and with tongue-tie back on can improve and win. 4.00
2 PAPERBACK TROOPER ** Gets upgrade to blinkers and fought on to place despite rider dropping whip last start but Polytrack form a worry. 12
3 SUPER EMPEROR * Hasn’t won for a long time. Only win was on Polytrack but needs to improve. 33
4 MAJULAH * Placed on Polytrack three starts back but has struggled since. Only win was on turf at 1400m and that was long ago. 25
5 DIAMOND KING *** Had support but disappointed in Maiden Plate last start when caught wide. Placed on poly at debut and might find this easier with Nooresh Juglall to ride. 12
6 AUSPICIOUS ACE * Recent efforts on turf poor but previous Polytrack efforts fair. Only win was a long time ago and gate no help. 20
7 MY GENESIS * Has shown nothing to date. 50
8 STANDOUT ** Battled on last start. Could improve from better draw with senior rider an tongue-tie removed. 12
9 HEAVENLY HAND *** Won in similar class last start when resuming. Carries same weight and should be handy with Benny Woodworth to ride. 3.00
10 LIM’S MYSTERY * OK two back but usually disappoints. 33
11 GOLDEN COIN * Won five starts back in similar Class but has struggled since. Poorly drawn. 20
12 LUCKY BOY *** Placed at past two outings. Suited this class and should be running on. 4.00
13 BOHEMIAN * Placed two starts back but is having 40th start as a Maiden. 33
14 SECONDWAVE * 10-year-old who needs to improve on recent efforts. 33
Selections; 1 YULONG EXPRESS – 12 PRIME TIME – 11 ADMIRAL WINSTON – 5 ELCARIM WIN
Plenty of debutants in this Maiden Plate Polytrack dash, which should give the speedy YULONG EXPRESS with experience on his side his chance. This three-year-old has placed at both outings since arrival, gets a 4kg claim for Syahir, is fitter now and should be hard to run down over 1000m. Of the other raced brigade, QIJI COMMANDER and ROYAL PAVILION have both shown enough to win a race sooner rather than later for connections but the dangers may come from the unraced contingent. The two who have trialled best are ADMIRAL WINSTON and PRIME TIME. Not much separates them on trial form and both are bred for speed, have no weight, can be prominent and may be the ones who put it to YULONG EXPRESS. Include ELCARIM WIN as a winning hope on debut. Betting Strategy – YULONG EXPRESS Win.
1 YULONG EXPRESS *** Placed at both outings since arrival and excuses not to finish closer last start. Gets 4kg claim, fitter now and should be hard to run down over 1000m. 2.50
2 QIJI COMMANDER *** Faded last start over this trip but could benefit from better gate. Should be prominent. 5.00
3 SUPER WIN * Battling over longer and might find these too sharp. 20
4 ROYAL PAVILION *** Ran on late last start over this trip. Only placing was at 1400m but should be closing late. 8.00
5 ELCARIM WIN *** By Dundeel. Half-brother to useful three-time winner Oria. Trialled well enough to consider on debut with market a good guide. 12
6 MR ALFONSO ** Showed speed before weakening at debut. Well drawn and can improve from kinder gate. 12
7 RAISE ME UP * Needs to improve on debut. 50
8 RIVER TREASURE ** By Super Easy. Showed speed on debut before being eased late. Watch market as could give a sight. 33
9 HELUSHKA ** By Toronado. Trialled solidly in slow time. Watch market. 33
10 DARLING * Japanese-bred by Rulership. Did not show up in trial. 33
11 ADMIRAL WINSTON *** 2Two-year-old by Declaration Of War. Half-brother to Listed winner To Excess. Trialled well enough to win on debut. Watch market. 8.00
12 PRIME TIME *** Two-year-old. By Written Tycoon. Brother to winner Taikun Warrior. Trialled well and can win with lightweight. 8.00
Selections; 2 TIME TO ROCK – 4 WIN MAK MAK – 1 ARC TRIUMPH – 5 SUN PRINCEPS
The apprentice allowance may tell the tale in this Class 4 over 1000m. TIME TO ROCK franked some good form with a solid win in this Class last start. Over the same distance, Mark Walker has put the 4kg claimer Riduan on and from gate one with 1.5kg less than his last outing, TIME TO ROCK will be hard to run down. Most of the others have moderate credentials including ARC TRIUMPH who hasn’t won for a long time but drops in grade, while the saddle slipped on SUN PRINCEPS last start and this grade, distance and surface suit. BOY NEXT DOOR has been caught wide at both starts since his Maiden win but could improve from good gate with blinkers added, while the market on the newcomer WIN MAK MAK who won twice from 11 starts in Victoria before arrival and showed plenty of dash before being eased at his local trial. Betting Strategy – TIME TO ROCK win, saver on WIN MAK MAK.
1 ARC TRIUMPH *** Recent form moderate but drops in grade and suited on Polytrack. With 3kg claim can be prominent. 6.00
2 TIME TO ROCK *** Fought hard to prevail in this class last outing from wide alley. With 4kg claim carries 1.5kg less than last start. Hard to run down from good gate. 3.00
3 HOSHIKO ** Resuming. Hasn’t won for a long time but suited this surface and distance. Watch market. 33
4 WIN MAK MAK *** Won twice from 11 starts in Victoria before arrival. Showed plenty of dash at recent trial before being eased. Can consider with market best guide. 10
5 SUN PRINCEPS *** Saddle slipped and ran a distant placing in this grade last start. Poorly drawn but should be running on. 6.00
6 SOUTHERN WIND ** Returned lame when supported at Singapore debut. Poorly drawn and only Australian win was over longer. 33
7 BOY NEXT DOOR *** Caught wide at both starts since Maiden win. Blinkers go back on and could improve from good gate. 6.00
8 XIONG FONG * Has disappointed at recent starts and only wins are on turf. 33
9 SILVER SKY ** Placed in weaker company last start. Drops in weight and visor comes off. Awkwardly drawn but could run on. 16
10 PIONEER SEVEN ** Nine-year-old who has speed but faded last start. Slipping down in ratings and from good gate can give a sight. 8.00
11 GOLDEN SPARK * Trip and Polytrack suits but need easier. 16
12 LOOKS GOOD * Placed in KSD three starts back but has struggled since. Only win was at this trip but poorly drawn. 33
13 RED CLAW * Battled on last start but has struggled since win five starts back. Only wins are on turf. 33
14 MISS MICHELLE * Showed speed when blinkers went on last start but needs easier. 33
Selections; 7 COLOUR PAINT – 5 WHITE TRUFFLE – 4 KA CHANCE – 2 FLYING YELLOW
Most of these maidens have been trying for a while and Class 5 beckons. The one they may have to run down is the Bruce Marsh-trained COLOUR PAINT who has placed twice over 1000m in four starts on the Poltrack, is well drawn and with Troy See to ride, should be prominent for a long way. The interesting runner is WHITE TRUFFLE who hasn’t raced for 72 weeks but did show promise in four starts, running second before his long break – watch for support. KA CHANCE has disappointed to date but did have excuses last start after the saddle slipped and he was later found to have respiratory issues; he could improve. Others who could show up in a weak race include the resuming BEJEWELLED and the two relative newcomers in SUPER TICKETS and FLYING YELLOW who could improve on their debut efforts. Betting Strategy – COLOUR PAINT win.
1 SUPER TICKETS ** Did nothing at Singapore debut in Class but will find this easier. Could improve but may need longer. 8.00
2 FLYING YELLOW *** Showed some speed at Singapore debut and could show up from good gate back in trip. 8.00
3 ORIENT EXPRESS * Has shown little at three starts to date but his two recent starts were in Class 4 so could improve. Watch market with Rodd up. 33
4 KA CHANCE *** Well-bred horse who was disappointing in Australia and is showing similar signs in Singapore. Saddle slipped and returned a roarer last start. Well drawn and should be handy. 5.00
5 WHITE TRUFFLE *** Resuming after long break and change of stables. Showed promise before injury. Trialled fairly, Well drawn and with 3kg claim could show up. Watch market. 4.00
6 BEJEWELLED ** Resuming. Form last preparation moderate but has placed twice in seven outings and can show up in this weak field on the back of a good trial. 7.00
7 COLOUR PAINT *** Has placed twice over 1000m in four starts. Well drawn and while 1100m may test should be prominent for a long way. 3.00
8 SUN ELIZABETH * Resuming. Needs to improve on efforts to date. 33
9 D’GREAT COMMAND * Placed over this trip five starts back but has battled since. Needs to improve. 25
10 PAKATAN WARRIOR * Winkers on but has struggled since arriving from Malaysia. 50
Selections; 1 LONHRO GOLD – 4 MAN OF MYSTERY – 5 MY GOLD – 3 JUSTICE LIGHT
There will be plenty of speed in this and again the 4kg claims will play a part. LONHRO GOLD has disappointed since a Class 3 win four starts back but gets a 4kg claim for Yusoff and might find this easier; he should be prominent for a long way and may be too strong. MAN OF MYSTERY was never likely from a wide gate last start, he is better drawn here and with a 4kg claim for Riduan, can be prominent. Another who will benefit from a 4kg claim is JUSTICE LIGHT who won over this trip four starts back and has had saddle issues at his last two. Others near the speed will be WHY NOT, DASH and from out wide, BRINGER OF WAR and SUPER POSH. While they are going hammer and tongs, the swoopers get their chance with MY GOLD and OTTAWA likely to be running on late. Betting Strategy – LONHRO GOLD win.
1 LONHRO GOLD *** Has disappointed since Class 3 win four starts back but gets 4kg claim and might find this easier. Should be prominent for a long way. 5.00
2 BRINGER OF WAR ** Resuming after stable change. Won Class 4 three starts but has struggled since. Trialled fairly. Gets tongue-tie and has speed but poorly drawn. 8.00
3 JUSTICE LIGHT *** Won over this trip four starts back and saddle has slipped at last two runs. Gets 4kg claim and can improve from good gate. 6.00
4 MAN OF MYSTERY *** Never likely from wide gate last start. Better drawn here and with 4kg claim can be prominent. 5.00
5 MY GOLD *** Racing well and should be suited by strong speed. Will be closing late. 5.00
6 WHY NOT *** Caught wide and disappointed last start but better suited here from gate 1 and should be near the speed for a long way. 8.00
7 MASTER OF MALIBU * Has only battled at three outings since resuming. All wins are at 1200m and might find this too sharp. 25
8 OTTAWA ** Doesn’t win often but rarely runs poorly. Gets visor and Michael Rodd. Will appreciate strong speed and be closing late. 8.00
9 DASH * Has speed but recent efforts ordinary. Needs easier. 33
10 SUPER POSH ** Run down with support late last start. Distance suits but not helped by gate. 25
11 NATURAL IMPULSE * Just missed in weaker field last start and that company looks his caper. 33
12 HORSE KING * Will have trouble keeping up with these. 50
13 BASILISK * Battling. Will find this too sharp. 50
14 MARK ECLIPSE * Has battled away at both outings since resuming but may need easier. 50
Selections; 3 LIM’S HUNTER – 2 INVINCIBLE MAN – 10 PARKER – 5 SUGARTIME JAZZ
Another ugly start to the Jackpot for exotic players and it will pay to go as wide as the budget permits. But while we can make a solid case for the likes of SUGARTIME JAZZ, SPUR ME ON and FULL LUCK, we could narrow the winner down to just three horses in INVINCIBLE MAN, LIM’S HUNTER and PARKER. Of the three, LIM’S HUNTER gets Michael Rodd and while drawn wide, showed enough last start to think this race suits and he can win with a positive ride. Likewise, INVINCIBLE MAN has also drawn badly but had excuses last start, was due prior and can win with Troy See up. PARKER is a Class 5 journeyman and is in solid form without a result but a good recent trial suggests he could pinch this and may be value. Tough race, play with care and market a good guide. Betting Strategy – small win, LIM’S HUNTER.
1 FULL LUCK ** Maiden who only battled last start but was thereabouts prior so can consider with G Boss up. 12
2 INVINCIBLE MAN *** Drawn wide but excuses last start and looked due prior so goes close. 4.00
3 LIM’S HUNTER *** Last start better than the result, handles the Polytrack and company suits. Big show with luck from gate 11. 5.00
4 SPUR ME ON ** Back in trip but did place two back over 1200m so worth thought with one eye on the market. 8.00
5 SUGARTIME JAZZ ** Veteran who also drops back in trip but versatile and form suggests he can overcome bad gate and win. 12
6 ELITE TRIPLEEIGHT * Disappointing type and hard to consider with blinkers off; back in trip. 33
7 MAGIC PAINT ** Resuming after bleeding attack and recent trial sold enough to consider in what is a suitable race. 12
8 MIRACLE WEI WEI * Shown glimpses but easier to ignore as a rule. 33
9 MIGHTY PHOENIX * Maiden who gets gate 1 but usually disappoints. 33
10 PARKER *** In solid form, this race is weak and recent trial suggests he is ready to win. 4.00
11 CAVATINA ** Only battled when resuming but should improve for the run with one eye on the market. 12
12 ALWAYS THERE ** Maiden who was solid at best when resuming but gate 2 in this field helps so include in exotics. 20
13 HIPPO VENTURA * Battles as a rule. 33
Selections; 7 FEDERATION – 5 MO ALMIGHTY – 6 TOOSBIES – 3 I’M A CONQUEROR
At first glance this looks just a fair Novice Plate with only 10 runners and nothing jumping off the page at the race conditions to win. In saying that, MO ALMIGHTY is in best at the weights and has the form on the board to think he can turn some very good form into a much deserved win with the Polytrack over 1200m ideal. However, two horses who missed a place last start in TOOSBIES and FEDERATION will have something to say after eye-catching recent trials. In fact FEDERATION was extremely impressive at his trial with blinkers added and given his only win was on the Polytrack over this trip, he could be very hard to hold out from gate 2 with Glen Boss up. Likewise, TOOSBIES can make amends for his poor effort last start and can win on the back of his strong trial. Of the rest, I’M A CONQUEROR won at his Singapore debut and has to be respected. Betting Strategy – FEDERATION win.
1 IMPLEMENT ** Poor Singapore debut but did over-race so with blinkers off should see improvement. 20
2 RAHEEB ** Coming off a shocker but has trialled well since and can consider on best form. 20
3 I’M A CONQUEROR *** Not in best at the race conditions but won very well on debut with support and pay to follow. 5.00
4 STARDICE * Won a weak on last start and would have to improve again to have a say in this field. 12
5 MO ALMIGHTY *** Needs a result for the support of late but in form, in best at the conditions and very hard to beat. 2.70
6 TOOSBIES *** Disappointing last start after very strong maiden win but recent trial very strong and looks a big show. 5.00
7 FEDERATION *** Not disgraced last start when missing a place but recent trial with headgear suggests he improves and can win. 4.00
8 AXEL ** Ran on well to break maiden status last start but this is a lot tougher. 20
9 DIXIELAND ROCK * Lame and heart issues last start and could work into this late at long odds. 50
10 SO CALLED * Maiden tested this company. 50
Selections; 4 BLITZ POWER – 7 METTLESOME – 11 GENTLEMEN AGREEMENT – 1 REACH FOR THE SUN
Not an overly strong Class 4 Polytrack 1600m race and the tote may be a very good guide for punters on the day. But as it stands, BLITZ POWER knows where the line is and showed more than enough first up to think he can knock in an early win this preparation and gets his chance from gate 3 with John Powell up. Another to consider is METTLESOME who pulled up lame last start but obviously goes very well in races like this on form prior with a handy 3kg claim from gate 6 in his favour. Down the ratings, GENTLEMEN AGREEMENT is in honest form and gives every indication that the 1600m will suit and worth looking for stable support. Of the others, REACH FOR THE SUN looks a dead-set swooper who may try to pinch this with a 3kg claim and the emergency, NOT USUAL PRINCE, is worth thought if he gets a start. Betting Strategy – BLITZ POWER Eachway.
1 REACH FOR THE SUN ** Sprinter testing the waters over 1600m. Could give a sight. 20
2 GOLD REWARD ** Will find this easier than recent outings and goes close on best Class 4 form. 6.00
3 SMART LAD ** A few years since last win but freshened by good recent trial so could improve in a race that suits. 12
4 BLITZ POWER *** Swooper who ran on well when resuming and can show up on that effort over 1600m. 6.00
5 VERIZON ** Super disappointing not to have won in Singapore given the support he gets and needs to lift on recent efforts. 6.00
6 YULONG DREAM * Needs to show more. 50
7 METTLESOME *** Pulled up lame last start when disappointing and can win on form prior. 6.00
8 FORESTO * Very disappointing since maiden win but recent trial was good enough to expect improvement at odds with blinkers removed. 20
9 ZULU WARRIOR ** Having first start on the Polytrack and wide draw a concern but in good form and can consider. 6.00
10 PARADOR * Only battling and drawn wide but 1600m suits so could improve without blinkers. 33
11 GENTLEMEN AGREEMENT *** Honest and work late in races suggest 1600m suits and should get every chance from gate 5. 7.00
12 CARIBBEAN LADY ** Maiden who is eligible for easier but showed enough last start to think she has something to offer from gate 1. 12
13 NOT USUAL PRINCE *** Widest draw a concern but looks a capable type on what he has shown at two starts in Singapore and worth following. 12
14 LIM’S RHYTHM ** Tough to follow but runs on super when in the mood so keep safe. 20
Selections; 1 YABADABADOO – 3 TARO SAN – 7 SILENT FORCE – 2 COPACABANA
A solid Class 4 to finish the Sunday card and with the new rating bands it will pay to look at some of the horses with recent Class 3 form to their names. YABADABADOO will certainly appreciate this company, trip and track and more importantly, a better gate. That’s enough boxes ticked and with Glen Boss retaining the ride, he gets his chance. TARO SAN is a progressive type and with only one win in Singapore to his name, this company does look his caper and this four-year-old looked to have enough in hand last start to follow with Noh Senari a factor. Of the others with winning hopes, COPACABANA won two races back and will very much appreciate what should be an easier assignment than his last start, while the former UK galloper SILENT FORCE showed more than enough at his Singapore debut to think he wins a race sooner than later. Betting Strategy – YABADABADOO strong win.
1 YABADABADOO *** Never involved from wide gate last start but suited in this company and hard to hold out from gate 2. 3.00
2 COPACABANA *** Will appreciate Class 4 and goes close on the back of a good trial with gate 1 a bonus. 4.00
3 TARO SAN *** Handy type who looked to have some in hand last start and will find this easier. Keep safe. 6.00
4 GANASSI ** Just fair last start in this company but should appreciate the Polytrack on trial form and could give a sight. 20
5 LIFE IS GAMBLE ** Resuming and will be running on late no the back at odds on the back of some good trials. 20
6 SATELLITE WINNER ** Another who will be doing best work late and should be Eachway value. 20
7 SILENT FORCE *** UK galloper who showed enough on debut to think he is a horse to follow. 4.00
8 SUPER SPEED ** Will very much appreciate better gate than what he has had at two starts thus far and also gets head-gear added so look for improvement. 20
9 ELITE BEAST * Repeat roarer offender last start and may need longer than this. 33
10 ONE FORCE * Tough to follow and back in trip so not for me. 50
11 LITTLE MASTER * Needs easier and longer. 50
12 HOST THE NATION * Veteran eligible for easier. 33
