GENERAL FRANCO CRUISES IN
Ken Nicol: Frankel colt General Franco could hardly have been more impressive on debut at Kenilworth on Tuesday.
The 1000m was expected to be sharp for the R4 million yearling, and it certainly looked like it halfway through the race, as he languished four or five lengths off the gallop.
But he quickened like a good one when he got the idea and quickly stormed clear to win by three and a half under a hands ride by Richard Fourie, who was suitably impressed.
“I battled to keep him in touch, but through the 400 he saw daylight and carved through the field.
“He’s a lovely horse who is going places.”
Jonathan Snaith also had big plans.
“We’d like to earmark him for the Guineas later this year.”
