Bonginkosi Nkosi: In-form conditioner Justin Snaith brings 2018 Vodacom Durban July runner-up, Made To Conquer, at Scottsville on Sunday afternoon, and it should pay decently to side with this son of Dynasty when he reunites with Richard Fourie in the Listed The Sledgehammer over 1750m.
This will be the gelding’s first run since battling to quicken in the Sun Met, finishing an uninspiring 8.75 lengths behind the highly rated Rainbow Bridge.
That performance isn’t a true reflection of Made To Conquer’s ability, and in his defence, he had multiple Grade 1 winners like Legal Eagle, Oh Susanna and Do It Again finish in front of him on that occasion so can be forgiven.
This five-year-old will benefit from the fact he is the joint best-weighted runner alongside, Eyes Wide Open, who considering he failed to produce a solid effort since winning the Grade 1 Cape Derby in 2018 is unlikely to trouble the selection.
Made To Conquer was an eye-catching runner-up in the Grade 2 WSB Premier Trophy in his penultimate offering and if reproduces anything close to that showing will have no trouble outclassing his main danger, Silva’s Bullet.
The latter is a two-time winner who is actually yet to miss the first three placings in seven appearances so is a must include in your Pick 6.
The jockey-trainer combination of Fourie and Snaith should be seen in the winner’s enclosure with Strathdon following the running of Highland Night Cup over 2400m and with Eachway prospect Miyabi Gold in Race 6, The Scarlet Lady (Listed).
