Viv Greybe: Champion jockey Lyle Hewitson looks set to claim a fair share of the spoils at Scottsville on Wednesday when teamed up with some bright prospects on the eight-race card.

His first strike is likely to come in Race 2 when aboard Dennis Bosch-trained Knight Warrior in a 1600m Maiden Juvenile Plate.

After a promising fourth place on debut over 1400m at Greyville, this gelding turned in an even better performance in his subsequent outing when coming from near last to finish a head second over the same course and distance.

The extra distance this time should see him in the winner’s enclosure. With the scratching of Pinkerton, he could be followed home by Watchword, Al Jazeera and Deer Park.

Race 3 should see the combination come to light with four-time winner Collabro in a 1600m MR 80 Handicap. This ultra-consistent five-year-old had Hewitson up three runs back when a gutsy 0.50-length winner over 1600m at Greyville.

Hewitson missed the ride in the gelding’s subsequent two runs at Greyville where he finished third over 1900m and second over 1400m.

Reunited with Hewitson he should go one better this time, and his task could be made easier with the scratching of Ragoon and Noble Joshua, which leave His main rivals are Blackburn Roc and Tommy Grand as his main rivals.

Garth Puller-trained Cassius Colt can be deemed unlucky in his last two starts when a short-head second over 1900m and 2000m at Greyville. However, his overdue win could come in Race 4 when teamed up with Hewitson and stepping up the distance to 2400m. It is worth noting that the only time he raced at Scottsville was five runs back when he made late headway and finished a 1.15-length third over 2400m.

The gelding’s principal rivals are World Cruise, Kheelan Dynasty, Sun On Sand and Myrrh.

Jockey Anton Marcus is unlikely to come away from this meeting winless. Follow him in Race 1 where he lines up with Yogas Govender-trained We Light The Fire in a 1000m Maiden Juvenile Plate. This colt will be out to recoup losses after finishing second at Greyville and fourth at Scottsville, but should not miss this time with the experience gained from those outings.

Expect a challenge from the likes of Bold Phoenix, Quant Master, Candy Apple and Presumptuous.
