JOEY RAMSDEN

TOP trainer Joey Ramsden has returned from a week’s prospecting in Singapore but without having made a final decision on whether his future lies there.

He told Michael Clower of God Circle: “We met with everyone and we got to see everything and we now have an idea of the enormity of the task that lies ahead should we go.

“But we haven’t made up our minds yet and I have many things to think about including the children.”

When the news of Ramsden’s interest in a training position in Singapore broke a few weeks ago, he wrote in a media release: “It’s a very exciting opportunity that when it came up I was naturally obliged to look further into as I have dire concerns about the future of Cape Racing, and racing in this country in general.

“I have provisionally accepted boxes at the Singapore Turf Club but as of yet I have not signed anything or been given an official licence or working visa.”

Ramsden was crowned Cape champion trainer four times and has won 26 Gr1 races. He has handled dozens of top-level performers, including Variety Club and Winter Solstice, two of the best runners in SA’s racing history.
