Brandan Gaillard: Value is always to be found, even in a difficult meeting as this one at Flamingo Park on Monday and one horse who could go close, even perhaps winning, is Firefoot in Race 6, a MR 72 Handicap over 1800m.
This Stephanie Miller trained gelding Firefoot has done well enough since joining the yard and won the last time he was in a handicap, beating Happy Pills by a neck in April over 1600m.
This son of Mambo In Seattle was only pushed up two points for that win and although he has not won in three starts since, has earned money in all of them and those races were in a higher grade.
Another plus in his column is that jockey Ryan Munger is back aboard and this rider was up when he last won and when third before that.
Munger will need to overcome a wide draw but that is not as difficult in this 1800m race as it is over shorter distances in races around the turn.
To win exotics one needs bankers and Dancing For Rain could be the one in Race 4, a Maiden Plate over 1200m.
This filly also represents the Stephanie Miller-Ryan Munger combination.
Dance for Rain showed she was ready to shed her maiden tag very soon when touched off narrowly by Dance Dance over 1400m this month.
Then this three-year-old filly had rival in this race Noble Princess well behind her.
That was Dance For Rain’s first run on the sand so she is likely to have come on from that run and the slight drop in distance should suit her nicely and if allowed to stride out she will be hard to catch.
