Captain Anne a Bonny bet

Captain Anne a Bonny bet

Ken Nicol: Captain Anne Bonny hasn’t been disgraced competing against the best Port Elizabeth Juveniles lately.

This Tara Laing-trained daughter of Captain Of All made all in the Fillies Nursery a few runs back, and more recently was two lengths off useful colt Hooves Of Troy in the Dahlia Stakes —and runner up to progressive Luna Wish in the Ladies Slipper.

She takes a big drop in class in a Juvenile Plate over 1200m on Friday and should see off her paltry five rivals with ease in Race 2.

This looks a five-star bet, and can be bankered in all Exotics.

Another who makes strong appeal is Cradleofgratitude in Race 4, a Maiden Plate over 1400m.

Sharon Kotzen’s gelding was caught late from a wide draw over this trip making her PE debut last time. He also has only five opponents to worry about, and will not have a better chance to leave the maiden

Both this one and Captain Anne Bonny will be strong favourites, but taking a double could well be the way to go.

For those looking for an Eachway chance, Titus in Race 6 should present some value. This— eight-year-old ran on
strongly last time out in his second outing aœfter a rest. He now goes over 1900m, which is right up his alley, and should be heavily involved in the finish in this MR 72 Handicap.

(Note: The late switch to poly track does raise questions, as Captain Anne Bonny and Cradleofgratitude have never run on the surface before. Titus loves poly.)
