Ken Nicol: Informed punters can build up their kitty in Race 1 at Scottsville.
Informative looks very likely to get favourite backers off to a good start at Scottsville on Wednesday.
Race 1 is a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1000m and Informative, trained by Paul Matchett, has shown good pace and finished close up in all three prior appearances and has been unfortunate enough to bump a good sort each time.
On exposed form he should be far too strong for his six rivals. But just like before there is one who could potentially be well above average.
Paul Lafferty’s On The Bayou had his barrier trial over the course and distance and absolutely cruised in by over seven lengths. The value of these as a pointer is sometimes questioned and the time recorded was nothing special. But any betting support should be respected.
He will have to be decent to beat Informative though.
Another likely favourite who should oblige is Shango in Race 4. This Sean Tarry-trained colt has finished strongly in both sprints, and now goes over 1600m against moderate looking rivals.
He does have a wide draw to overcome, but really does look to be carrying too many guns for this maiden field.
An attractive looking value bet in an open looking race is Walterthepenniless in Race 6, a MR 72 Handicap over 1950m.
He wasn’t disgraced in a minor feature last time and looks sure to enjoy this trip.
The Drier-Veale combination always merits respect and he jumps from the inside gate. This Crusade gelding should go very close.
