Brendon Gaillard: Flying Squadron could have a winning introduction to the Fairview Polytrack when she lines up in Race 5 on Friday.
Ideal World filly Flying Squadron has taken a while to find her best form but she does look be improving so Race 5, a MR 80 Handicap for fillies and mare over 1900m at the Fairview Polytrack on Friday, could be hers for the taking.
Flying Squadron may have taken eight starts to finally crack the ice when winning at Kenilworth in May but it was her last run when runner-up behind Fly Thought that suggested she has wins in her tank.
This three-year-old filly made her local debut for trainer Yvette Bremner and was sent out unfancied at 12-1. She was slowly away and that clearly cost her dearly as she motored home and was only touched off by a much more fancied rival.
It will be Flying Squadron’s first taste of the Polytrack but if they go a pace she can run them over.
Two other runners on this meeting who could be worth being with are Rocks And Daggers in Race 3 and Easybyfar in Race 4.
More was expected of Rocks And Daggers earlier in his career but he failed to produce the goods.
A step up to 1600m seemed to do the trick with him and he was unlucky when touched off over the course and distance last time out.
South African championship-seeking jockey Muzi Yeni gets the ride.
The Var filly Easybyfar has only been moderate in what she has shown so far in her three starts but steps up in distance this time and an improved run is on the cards.
