Singapore Derby a Mission

Singapore Derby a Mission

Larry Foley – Singapore: Sunday is going to be a great day at Kranji, with the 2019 Singapore Derby headlining a terrific day’s racing.

The $1 million Group 1 feature over 1800m has attracted some very good horses with many of the capacity field being set for the Derby even before they had set foot in Singapore with overseas form obviously a consideration for analysts.

One such horse was Circuit Mission who had won over 1600m in good company in the UK and has since knocked in three wins from seven starts under the care of Lee Freedman.

He had excuses in the lead up race not to finish closer and connections would be more than happy with his preparation leading into what is his grand finale.

Likewise, his stablemate Sun Marshall had Derby credentials on his form from Australia and with two wins in Singapore securing him a start in the Classic, he must be considered.

The emergency entrant ThreeAndFourPence also arrived with this race in mind and would play some part if he gets a start, as would the highest rated horse in the race on best form, Elite Quarteto, with blinkers added to his gear.

But the ‘locals’ have been dominating the lead-up races with the only mare in the race – What’s New – winning the first two legs of the four-year-old Challenge and Sacred Croix has kept her honest and looks a huge show.

Throw in Nimble and Glasgow at any old odds in what looks a wide-open race with exotics likely to be hard to find but worth the effort.

Best Bets: (Golden Flame Race 10, Win), (Galileo’s Approach Race 4, Eachway) and (Glasgow Race 9, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 7 (3, 5, 8 and 10), Race 8 (2, 4, 5, 8, 10 and 11), Race 9 (2, 6, 7, 9, 11 and 16), race 10 (1).

Race 1
Selections; 12 BROADWAY SUCCESS – 4 HERO STAR – 5 ROYAL PAVILION – 13 GOLDEN THUNDER
The usual Class 5 battlers, none of whom win out of turn – if at all. BROADWAY SUCCESS is 3YO with fewer convictions than most, has been close up at his past three outings in this grade and with Benny Woodworth to ride from a good gate, he ticks most of the boxes. YULONG FIRE showed improvement last start over this trip, has trialled soundly and can show up again with Michael Rodd to ride. GOLDEN THUNDER only battled last start from a wide gate, but is better drawn here and with a senior rider aboard should be near the speed throughout and can replicate his effort of two starts back. HERO STAR only battled last start but placed in Class 4 over this trip three starts back; he has trialled since and can show up from the good gate with Ben Melham to ride. Of the others, PRINCE PEGASUS down in grade and ROYAL PAVILION coming off a solid win in similar company are both chances but neither are helped by their gates. Keep PLATO safe.

Betting Strategy – BROADWAY SUCCESS win.

1 GANNET ** Resuming in right company. Trial was sound and raced well first up previously. Keep safe. 16
2 MAJESTIC ** Maiden. Wasn’t far away in KSD over this trip four starts back and has placed over the journey in a Restricted Maiden. Gets back but with blinkers off could run on. 16
3 PRINCE PEGASUS ** Down in grade. Placed in Class 4 three starts back over 1200m. Gate no help but another to keep safe. 10
4 HERO STAR *** Only battled over this trip last start and has trialled since. Placed in Class 4 over this trip three starts back. Can show up from good gate with Ben Melham to ride. 8.00
5 ROYAL PAVILION *** Broke through for convincing win in this grade last start. Has been freshened by recent good trial. Poorly drawn but can show up with Vlad Duric to ride. 10
6 COMECATCHME * Distanced all three outings in Maiden company. Tested. 50
7 HERO IN THE WIND ** Resuming. Down in grade and consistent last preparation but best form is on poly over longer. 20
8 PLATO *** Slowly away but not far from winner last start. Can improve with more positive ride. 20
9 SILVER JOY * Distanced last start. Needs to improve on recent efforts. 50
10 YULONG FIRE *** Showed improvement last start over this trip. Trialled soundly and can show up again with Michael Rodd to ride. 6.00
11 ZMAN * Unsighted last start and blinkers come off. Prefer others. 33
12 BROADWAY SUCCESS *** Close up at past three outings in this grade. With senior rider from good gate should be in the finish. 3.50
13 GOLDEN THUNDER *** Only battled last start from wide gate. Better drawn here and with senior rider should be near the speed throughout 6.00
14 TAVITO * Ran on to place last start over 1100m on poly. Best efforts have been on that surface. 16
15 GANGNAM CLASSIC ** Won Maiden over this trip and not far away at recent outings. Well drawn and should be prominent. 14
16 RICHIE RICH * Needs to improve on recent efforts. 50

Race 2
Selections; 1 ON LINE – 2 FOREVER WIN – 3 LIM’S HONOUR – 11 INVISIBLE
Several are banging on the door in this Restricted Maiden but the one most likely is the O’Reilly gelding, ON LINE. The 3YO has performed well at all three outings and just missed in Novice class last week; he is well drawn, bred for this trip and with Vlad Duric to ride rates as the hardest to beat. The main danger may be the Donna Logan-trained FOREVER WIN who has been freshened after being runner-up over 1400m last start; he is improving with each run and this distance will suit. The other main chance is LIM’S HONOUR who ran second over this trip two starts back and followed up that run with a good effort over 1400m; from his bad gate he will get back but close late. They are the clear top three chances on revealed form though DUXTON shows some promise, EL PRIMERO has previously placed at the trip, PISCA PISCA will be running on and INVISIBLE looks the improver at odds.

Betting Strategy – ON LINE win, saver on INVISIBLE at long odds.

1 ON LINE *** Has performed well at all three outings and just missed in Novice class last week. Well-drawn, bred for this trip and with Vlad Duric rates as hardest to beat. 3.00
2 FOREVER WIN *** Freshened after being runner-up here over 1400m last start. Improving with each run and this distance will suit. Hard to hold out. 4.00
3 LIM’S HONOUR *** Ran second over this trip two starts back and followed up with good effort over 1400m. Poorly drawn (again) but will close late. 4.00
4 MONTOYA * Yet to place in five starts but will find this distance more suitable. Gate no help. 33
5 DUXTON *** Has been freshened and trialled well. Failed at only previous 1600m outing but gets William Pike from a good gate and could make amends. 8.00
6 SUMMER GLITTER ** Well drawn and may improve over 1600m with forward run expected. 25
7 ALWAYS INNOCENT * Bred to stay but has only battled at two previous outings over 1600m. 33
8 DAWNING GOLD * Gets blinkers and recent trial sound but has struggled at both outings to date. 33
9 HIGHGATE * Has battled at both outings. Extra distance may help. 33
10 EL PRIMERO *** Looked to have some in hand last start and placed over this trip at previous start. Keep safe. 16
11 INVISIBLE *** Form better than it reads given work late at both starts and could be the big improver over the mile at odds. 50
12 PISCA PISCA ** Has been freshened and gets blinkers. Will appreciate extra distance and should be running on. 16
13 AIR COMBAT * Ran last on debut. Will appreciate extra distance but has a long way to go. 50
14 FORT MUSTANG * 2YO by Unencumbered. Hasn’t shown up at trials and poorly drawn. 50
15 CHAMPAGNE FINALE * Yet to show up in four outings. 50
16 JOYFUL ASPIRATION * Needs to improve on efforts to date. 50

Race 3
Selections; 6 I’M INCREDIBLE – 9 LIM’S CRAFT – 1 SUPER TYCOON – 10 OVERCOMING

A very competitive Class 4 with some solid and progressive performers involved. The most interesting is the resuming 4YO, I’M INCREDIBLE who has shown promise winning twice up to a mile in six starts; he has trialled well and with Vlad Duric should race well fresh. In the same vein, LIM’S CRAFT is a horse with a future and looked a good thing beaten with traffic issues when resuming; he can win with luck from the wide gate. SUPER TYCOON won over this trip two starts back but only battled in higher grade last outing; he is better in suited this company and with William Pike should get good run throughout. TURF PRINCESS chased hard behind a bolting leader last start over this trip and while poorly drawn, she should be running on. These may be the top hopes but in a race of depth DUSSELDORF, OVERCOMING and TRAPIO all have valid form credentials.

Betting Strategy – I’M INCREDIBLE win, saver on LIM’S CRAFT.

1 SUPER TYCOON *** Won over this trip two starts back but only battled in higher grade last start. Better suited this company and with William Pike should get good run throughout. 5.00
2 SAHARA EAGLE * Resuming with blinkers back on. Last win was this class and distance but that nine starts back and recent form poor. Did not show up at trial and gate no help. 25
3 TRAPIO *** Freshened after battling late last start. Previous form solid and won Maiden over this trip. Trialled well and should be handy throughout. 10
4 COMMAND ROYALE * Winkers and tongue-tie on but needs to improve on recent efforts. 33
5 DUSSELDORF *** Ran on well last start and Michael Rodd stays on. Should be handy throughout from good gate and can run on. 10
6 I’M INCREDIBLE *** Resuming. Has shown promise winning twice up to a mile in six starts. Trialled well and with Vlad Duric should race well fresh. 4.00
7 TURF PRINCESS *** Ran on behind bolting leader last start over this trip. Poorly drawn but should be running on. 6.00
8 GREEN STAR ** Runner-up in Novice two starts back and battled on similar company last start. Claim helps and can run on. 16
9 LIM’S CRAFT *** Held up badly last start when resuming and looked a good thing beaten. Will need luck from wide gate but can win with senior hoop. 8.00
10 OVERCOMING *** Runner-up at past two outings over this trip. Gets winkers and with Tommy Berry from good gate can go one better. 8.00
11 BEAR WITNESS * Needs to improve on efforts since resuming but has won at this trip in Class 4. Gate no help. 33
12 CLARTON PALACE ** Has been freshened. Far from disgraced in this Class last start over this trip following back-to-back class 5 wins. Well drawn but has found a tough class 4. 33
13 STORM RYKER * Best form on poly and poorly drawn. 50
14 DOMINIC * Won Class 5 two starts back and will find this tough. 50
15 ATLANTIC FOX ** Close up at past two outings in this grade. Poorly drawn but will be running on. 20
16 BLITZ POWER * Runner-up this class and distance two starts back. Last win was in KSD and might find this too hard. 50

Race 4
Selections; 5 GALILEO’S APPROACH – 3 CENTURION – 1 STAR EMPIRE – 2 ABSOLUTE MIRACLE
An open Class 4 over 1600m with no standouts. GALILEO’S APPROACH has a good gate, this distance suits and he could set the tempo and be hard to pass. CENTURION won a similar event here two starts back but found the rise in class and distance too much last start; he is better suited here and from a good gate with a 3kg claim for Simon Kok, may be the one to beat. STAR EMPIRE won over this trip in Class 4 two starts back on the poly; his best form is on that surface but he is well drawn and should be prominent for a long way. The wild card may be ABSOLUTE MIRACLE whose recent form is poor but he is way down in grade and this distance suits; he will get back but can charge late. PENNSYLVANIA and HIGHER SOUL should battle away but aren’t helped by bad gates.

Betting Strategy – GALILEO’S APPROACH each-way.

1 STAR EMPIRE *** Won over this trip in Class 4 two starts back on poly. Handles the turf, well drawn and should be prominent. 5.00
2 ABSOLUTE MIRACLE *** Recent form poor but drop in grade will help as will mile. Should be charging late. 6.00
3 CENTURION *** Won this class and distance two starts back. Found rise in class and distance too much last start, Better suited here and from good gate with 3kg claim can be in the finish. 4.50
4 KENG MAK MAK ** Recent form only moderate but looked to have some in hand last start so should improve from good gate. 16
5 GALILEO’S APPROACH *** Fought hard to be in finish last start over 1400m. From good gate should be prominent for a long way. 6.00
6 CORSA D’ORO * Won Maiden five starts back but has battled since. 33
7 KING ZOUSTAR ** Not far away last start and blinkers downgraded to visor. Step up to a mile from awkward gate may test. 16
8 LIM’S RIPPLE * Runs on but poorly drawn and best efforts are over longer on Poly. 20
9 DREAMER LEGEND ** Won this class and distance four starts back and winkers back on. Will improve on recent efforts over short. Keep safe. 20
10 HIGHER SOUL ** Best work late from wide gate last start suggests more to offer but has drawn badly again. 12
11 AUSPICIOUS DAY * Needs to improve on efforts since resuming. 33
12 PENNSYLVANIA ** Battled away last start over this trip. Has found a strong race and gate no help. 12
13 OPTIMUM STAR * Needs Poly and easier. 33
14 YULONG SHENG LONG ** Ran on without threatening to place last start over this trip. Better in easier but won’t be far away. 16
15 DAZZLE GOLD * Yet to win in Singapore but battles away. Needs easier. 20

Race 5
Selections; 2 RUNMINDERBINDERRUN – 10 FEROCIOUS – 12 GINGERMAN – 13 SPOKESMAN
Another Class 5 where most don’t win out of turn. The one that interests is the Stephen Gray-trained RUNMINDERBINDERRUN. The 3YO placed over this trip three starts back, his recent trial was strong and with blinkers back on and a 3kg claim for Simon Kok, he gets a chance to break through. FEROCIOUS was not far away over this trip last start, he is well drawn and with Benny Woodworth to ride, can be in the finish. GINGERMAN broke through on the poly over 1700m last start and just missed over this trip three starts back and looks some hope again, while SPOKESMAN is still a Maiden but placed over 1600m three starts back and will find this distance suitable. Of the rest, WEST NORTH HILL won in this grade when resuming and wasn’t far away on poly last start, while PACIFIC DRAGON has trialled soundly and a market watch is advised first up.

Betting Strategy – RUNMINDERBINDERRUN win.

1 MISS MICHELLE ** Has been battling on poly. Only win before arrival was over this trip at Newcastle in UK. Poorly drawn but could run on. 20
2 RUNMINDERBINDERRUN *** Recent trial strong and blinkers back on. Placed over this trip three starts back and with 3kg claim gets a chance to break through. 3.00
3 HELUSHKA * Struggles to beat a runner home and gate no help. 33
4 MAMAMIA MAMAMIA * Blinkers off but has shown little in five starts. 33
5 ON THE RAZZ * Has been freshened but has shown little to date. 33
6 WEST NORTH HILL ** Won in this grade when resuming and wasn’t far away on poly last start. Poorly drawn but should be running on. 10
7 DARCI’S BOY * Has struggled since poly win four starts back. Could improve over this trip with tongue-tie back on. 20
8 EVIL SPEEDO ** Ran on solidly without being a threat resuming over this trip. Best form on poly but well drawn and could improve. 25
9 HOOGA NET * Blinkers to winkers but easier to ignore. 50
10 FEROCIOUS *** Not far away over this trip last start. Well drawn and with Benny Woodworth to ride can be in the finish. 4.50
11 PACIFIC DRAGON ** Resuming. Late Muscular Dragon. Last win was at this trip and recent trial was sound. Can show up with John Powell to ride. Watch market. 12
12 GINGERMAN *** Broke through on poly over 1700m last start. Just missed over this trip three starts back. Should get a good run throughout. 6.00
13 SPOKESMAN *** Still a Maiden but placed over 1600m three starts back and will find this distance suitable. Should get a good run throughout. 8.00
14 TOP BANANA * 21 start Maiden. Has been racing on poly but needs to improve. 50
15 DRAGONITE * Recent poly form fair but might find this too hard 33
16 WIRA SAKTI * 20 start Maiden. Struggling. 50

Race 6
Selections; 3 THREEANDFOURPENCE – 14 ATHLETICA – 8 CHOCOLATS – 4 GOLD STRIKE
With the three emergencies in the Derby in this Class 3 field, it will obviously pay to wait for scratching’s on the day before doing the form. But as it stands the three Derby hopefuls in THREEANDFOURPENCE, GOLD STRIKE and KING’S SPEECH all can win if they run in this race and not much would separate the trio. KING’S SPEECH won last start in a similar affair and the form from that race includes GOLD STRIKE, SOLO SUN and ATHELITICA who finished second, third and fourth respectively. Of those, ATHLETICA has had another good run – albeit in Class 4 – and from gate 1 he should get every chance with Tom Berry to ride. THREEANDFOURPENCE won over 1400m at his second Singapore start and he probably starts favourite and can win if he does indeed run. CHOCOLATS, STAR JACK and the RICHEBOURG just three more that win without surprising.

Betting Strategy – ATHLETICA each-way.

1 LIONROCKSPIRIT ** Coming off a shocker but can give a sight if left out front and pay to keep safe. 20
2 SONG TO THE MOON * OK late last start but still needs to find a few lengths before considering. 50
3 THREEANDFOURPENCE *** Derby emergency who won well over 1400m at second start in Singapore and can win this with blinkers added. 4.00
4 GOLD STRIKE *** Second emergency in the Derby. Will find this easier than last start and hard to hold out on what he showed in similar affair two back. 8.00
5 RICHEBOURG *** Swooper who will find 1800m to his liking and should work into winning calculation late. 12
6 KING’S SPEECH *** Third emergency in the Derby and won one of these last start and has to be a big show. 8.00
7 STAR JACK *** Returned to form last start, 1800m no trouble and should figure prominently. 10
8 CHOCOLATS *** In form, step up to 1800m ideal and can win with blinkers added. 6.00
9 MAJESTIC EMPRESS ** Very disappointing last start and drawn wide but usually competitive so can include in exotics. 20
10 MIGHTY EMPEROR * Up in grade and a better option on the Poly. 33
11 MIGHTY KENNY * Lost form and prefer others. 50
12 MR EXCHEQUER ** Longtime between drinks but OK late last start and last win (March 2018) was this trip and track so good value option. 20
13 SOLO SUN ** Tough to follow but ran on very well to place in similar affair last start and another to keep safe. 12
14 ATHLETICA *** Looked a good thing beaten in Class 4 last start and more than competitive in similar affair to this two back. Goes close. 7.00

Race 7
Selections; 3 KARISTO – 5 CHALAZA – 8 NATIONALITY – 10 IRONSIDE
A very competitive Class 3 event over 1400m and while there is nothing that jumps off the page as a good thing, KARISTO looks due to knock in his first win in Singapore. The 4YO who arrived after wins in NZ and Australia, found 1800m a tad far last start so the drop back to 1400m looks a good move and he can win with Ben Melham taking the ride for Lee Freedman. The Aussie trainer also saddles NATIONALITY who is overdue to win one of these and gets his chance sans visor with Tom Berry to ride. Most others win on best form including CHALAZA over his best trip, IRONSIDE at each-way odds and even LORD OF CLOUD up in grade after a run of solid form. There are also two last start Class 4 winners to keep safe in FILIBUSTER and WECANDO although obviously they will find this tougher.

Betting Strategy – KARISTO win, saver on LORD OF CLOUD.

1 MAGIC CITY * Lost all form but recent trial OK sans tongue-tie so could improve. 33
2 WECANDO ** Flopped at only start in similar company to this but wins either side suggests he will be competitive. 10
3 KARISTO *** Tried hard over 1800m last start before being found out late so drop back in trip ideal and can win on form prior. 3.00
4 LITTLE BIG MAN ** Wide gate a concern (again) but always come show in races of this ilk. 20
5 CHALAZA *** Never involved over 1200m last start from wide gate and gets his chance from barrier 2 over this trip with 3kg claim. 6.00
6 CROWN GIFT ** Recent win was on the Poly but handles the turf and usually an each-way show. 12
7 FILIBUSTER ** Surprised a few by winning at a rare turf run this trip last start but up in grade and this is obviously tougher. 12
8 NATIONALITY *** Winkers off after leading last start and looks overdue to win one of these. 6.00
9 SUPERNOVA ** Veteran who battled away last start but in honest form and happy to follow each-way. 20
10 IRONSIDE *** Progressive type who will give an honest account of himself and might be value. 12
11 WONDERFUL PAINT * Swooper who should need longer to show his best. 33
12 LORD OF CLOUD ** Has been threatening to win in Class 4 without success but competitive at this level so keep safe. 12
13 LOVING YOU * Won two starts back in Class 4 and that looks his caper. 33

Race 8
Selections; 5 CURVATURE – 4 LOYALTY MAN – 10 MISS DUSTY – 11 YABADABADOO
Another excellent race on a cracking Derby day card and Lee Freedman could hold the key with CURVATURE and the newcomer LOYALTY MAN both with winning hopes. CURVATURE gets Tommy Berry and is first up after returning a roarer at his last start in May. Putting a line through that run with a good subsequent trial under his belt, the race looks suitable and from gate 4, the 5YO will be hard to hold out. LOYALTY MAN arrived in Singapore with a very good record from Australia (seven wins from 26 starts) and 1400m first up on the back of a good trial is ideal with support likely. As you would imagine, plenty of competition and the likes of MAKANANI will find this easier than recent outings and can win on her best form, while MISS DUSTY and YABADABADOO both come through good runs over 1200m and play a part in this finish with no weight. NEPEAN resuming on the back of a good trial another that wins without surprising in what should be a busy finish.

Betting Strategy – MAKANANI each-way.

1 BAHANA * Resuming sans blinkers and no. 100
2 MAKANANI *** Honest mare who will find this easier than recent outings an fresh enough to have a say over 1400m. 12
3 MCGREGOR ** Only battled when resuming but extra 200m suits on the back of a solid trial. Keep safe. 20
4 LOYALTY MAN *** Former Australian who arrives with a good record of seven wins and six places from 26 starts. Trials good enough to win a race like this. 3.00
5 CURVATURE *** Freshened after returning a roarer last start. Trials very well, race suits and hard to hold out. 3.00
6 CLAUDIA’S BEAUTY * Lost all form but race does suit. 100
7 EAGLE EYE * Recent win on the Poly but won this trip on turf previously so could improve on moderate form of late. 33
8 NEPEAN *** Resuming in what looks a very suitable race and recent trial nice enough to give this a shake. 12
9 VIVIANO ** Not at his best of late but best work late last start over 1200m suggests he could play some role here at value. 33
10 MISS DUSTY *** Progressive mare who knows how to win and race looks ideal with no weight. Goes close. 6.00
11 YABADABADOO *** Grew wings late to just miss last start over 1200m and right in this. 6.00

Race 9
Selections; 6 SACRED CROIX – 7 CIRCUIT MISSION – 11 GLASGOW – 2 NIMBLE
As you would expect for the pinnacle of the 4YO-racing season, the Singapore Derby looks a beauty on paper with plenty of winning hopes including a couple that should be at decent odds for value seekers. NIMBLE and GLASGOW are the two that worked home well in the Stewards’ Cup and given the step up to 1800m and the openness of the race, they could very well play a part at a decent price. But as it stands the winning form of the mare WHAT’S NEW has to be the benchmark again. True, she hasn’t won beyond the mile but she hit the line well in the Stewards’ Cup and that form has to hold up with Ben Thompson retaining the ride. SACRED CRIOX is also in fine form finishing second behind WHAT’S NEW in the first two legs of the 4YO Challenge and given his work late over the mile, he gets his chance over 1800m. Likewise, CIRCUIT MISSION is a horse that is crying out for 1800m and given the Irish-bred gelding had excuses in the Stewards’ Cup and was the last horse to beat WHAT’S NEW (over this trip), he looks cherry ripe with Glen Boss to ride. Plenty of others to consider including QUARTERBACK who, while yet to win beyond 1400m, flashed home late in the Stewards’Cup and is a very nice type, while SUN MARSHAL has always looked a Derby horse on Australian form and comes into this with a Class 3 win or two under his belt. Add the emergency THREEANDFOURPENCE into the winning calculations if he gets a start with the booking of Michael Rodd obviously a pointer. Going even wider, KING LOUIS, HELIOSPHERE and EYE GUY will be involved at some stage and expect a very busy finish.

Betting Strategy – NIMBLE and GLASGOW each-way.

1 ELITE QUARTETO * Yet to show up at two starts in Singapore but gets blinkers so more forward run expected. 50
2 NIMBLE *** Has run on well at both starts in 4YO challenge and looks a genuine chance over 1800m. 20
3 KING LOUIS ** Not at his best of late but set for the Derby and blinkers off looks a good move with best work expected at the business end. 12
4 MR CLINT * Looks hopeless on form but this race always looked his grand final so keep safe at odds. 33
5 QUARTER BACK *** Yet to win beyond 1400m but hit the line well in the Stewards’ Cup and gets winkers so should figure. 6.00
6 SACRED CROIX *** In very good form being runner-up at first two legs and 1800m looks ideal. Hard to hold out. 4.00
7 CIRCUIT MISSION *** Traffic excuses not to finish closer in the Stewards’ Cup and has always looked a Derby horse. Big show. 6.00
8 EYE GUY ** Hard to fault form and will give a sight but should be tested late over 1800m. 20
9 SUN MARSHAL *** Recent wins in Class 3 but form from Australia suggests he is more than up to this Company and trip ideal. Can win. 8.00
10 MAGIC WAND * Not the ideal preparation having one unplaced run over 1200m in 2019. Not for me. 100
11 GLASGOW *** Has run on well at two previous legs on 4YO challenge suggesting more to offer at odds over 1800m sans blinkers. 50
12 HELIOSPHERE ** Ran on solidly without being a threat in Stewards’ Cup and has won up to the mile. Can consider with blinkers to visor. 20
13 SUPER DYNASTY * Booked a place with nice enough Poly win in Class 3 but may have pinched that and tested this level. 33
14 BEAU GESTE * Thereabouts without being a threat in the Stewards’ Cup and visor off but may be tested over 1800m. 33
15 DESTROYER ECLIPSE * Battled away and not far away in the Stewards’ Cup but query this trip. 50
16 WHAT’S NEW *** Ran third this trip to Circuit Mission before winning first two legs of the 4YO Challenge. Can win again. 5.00
17 THREEANDFOURPENCE *** US-bred who arrived via Dubai and the UK. Tow runs in Singapore good and could give a sight. 8.00
18 GOLD STRIKE ** Got too far back in the Stewards’ Cup but just missed two back this trip and will add value to exotics. 50
19 KING’S SPEECH ** Just won this trip in Class 3 last start and would figure somewhere late. 50

Race 10
Selections; 1 GOLDEN FLAME – 5 AXEL – 7 IRVING LIPSCHITZ – 2 ABSOLVIDO

After what should have been an excellent days racing, Kranjiracing is hoping GOLDEN FLAME can send punters home happy. The 4YO is in very good form and did it tough enough last start in a similar affair to think he will be hard to hold out from gate 3 in this field with Ben Thompson a factor. There are two progressive 3YO’s that will keep him honest in AXEL and IRVING LIPSCHITZ and the pair both win without surprising. AXEL has drawn badly in gate 16 but comes off a nice win in Novice Company and that will more than hold up here, while IRVING LIPSCHITZ is resuming after winning two from five at his first campaign and looks a horse to follow with gate 2 a bonus today. Of the rest, ABSOLVIDO will need the race run to suit swoopers but gets a handy 3kg claim with WIND OF LIBERTY and BILLY BRITAIN also in the mix.

Betting Strategy – GOLDEN FLAME win.

1 GOLDEN FLAME *** Did it tough when just missing in busy go in similar affair last start and hard to hold out with senior rider. 3.00
2 ABSOLVIDO *** Swooper who will work into winning calculations late if race run to suit. 8.00
3 BILLY BRITAIN ** Resuming after a well-earned break and market best guide on the back of a solid trial. 12
4 WIND OF LIBERTY *** Shown enough at three runs in Singapore to think he wins sooner than later with best work expected late. 12
5 AXEL *** Novice over this trip last start. Poorly drawn but shows promise. Hard to hold out. 5.00
6 DRONE * Needs to improve on what we have seen of late. 33
7 IRVING LIPSCHITZ *** Resuming. Promising type who won one of these three back and worth serious thought first up with gate 2 a bonus. 4.00
8 SIAM SAPPHIRE * Battling only. 50
