Brendan Gaillard: Judd’s Rocket is quoted at 7-1 but could provide the best value in Race 8 at Fairview.
Five-year-old Judd’s Rocket may only have won once in his 23 starts but could be of value in Race 8, a MR 72 Handicap over 1600m at Fairview on Friday.
This Judpot gelding is clearly a lot better than his last run would suggest when unplaced two weeks ago. That run is best ignored as he clearly did not like the soft going that day.
Judd’s Rocket is better judged on a previous run over the course and distance when beaten a neck by Leadman, who he now meets on 0.5kg better terms.
Woodstock Fairy has been priced up a 9-10 favourite for the race, Leadman and Gun Hill are 11-2 while Judd’s Rocket is quoted at 7-1 by Betting World, which look very attractive odds. An each-way bet is advised as he will have top jockey Muzi Yeni in the saddle.
Earlier on the card Para Handy looks progressive and could take care of his rivals in Race 5, while Ben-Hur looks the likely winner of Race 7.
Para Handy made his local debut for trainer Tara Laing and apart from a tardy start he could not have been more impressive as he drew away for a five-length victory.
His rivals look weaker than the field he beat and he looks a banker for all bets.
Ben-Hur has been battling to strike winning success in the Western Cape but as he is making his local debut that could all change and he could be a bit better than the opposition he faces.
