CLIFF BROWN TRAINS ELITE INCREDIBLE

Larry Foley: Maiden races can be whittled down to just a couple of contenders

It’s safe to say things could get ‘interesting’ for punters on Sunday with six of the 10 races on offer either Class 5 or Maidens.

But while it’s often hard to find the winners in some of those Class 5 raffles, the Maidens can be narrowed down to one or two serious hopes and a couple of ‘misters’ in MR MALEK (race 2) and MR FAT KIDDY (race 3) could provide an early race-to-race double.

Concentrating on the four better races, a Class 4 turf mile (race 4) looks a solid punting affair with last start winner, IRVING LIPSCHITZ, likely to start favourite but the likes of O’WHAT A FEELING, HIGHER SOUL and MILLENIUM’S RULE will keep him honest.

A Class 2 turf sprint is the next good race on the card (race 7) and it looks a beauty on paper with the smart ELITE POWER and SPECIAL KING likely to fight out the finish, although two progressive types in SAFEER and GRAND KOONTA could surprise.

Race 9 gives Cliff Brown-trained ELITE INCREDIBLE a chance to show his form behind Top Knight in the Three-Year-Old Series will see him win at Class 3 level and above, while the lucky last looks a beauty with three last start winners in HUGO, YULONG EXPRESS and SEA DRAGON all horses worth following.

Best Bets: (ELITE INCREDIBLE race 9, win), (GRATUS race 1, value) and (O’WHAT A FEELING race 4, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 7 (1, 4, 7 and 8), race 8 (2, 5, 9 and 11), race 9 (2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11), race 10 (4, 5 and 6).

Race 1

Selections; 3 KO OLINA – 2 LEO – 1 GRATUS – 4 MY HORSE

Donna Logan holds the key in the opener, as both her runners may be better than the average Class 5 performer. KO OLINA is a lightly raced mare and at only her third career start resumed with close second in this grade over 1100m; she will be improved by that and from a good gate with Patrick Maloney on board is the one they have to run down. The stablemate LEO also has fewer convictions than most with a win and a placing from seven starts; he won over 1100m in this grade last start and despite a 2.5kg weight rise should be prominent. Of the others, MY HORSE’s best form may be well behind him but he did show improvement when having his first Class 5 outing and the good gate will help, while GRATUS got knocked down last start dropping to Class 5 and he could be better than most here. Both SUN ELIZABETH and INVINCIBLE MAN were well beaten but placed in a similar race to this last start and can be included in exotics, Betting Strategy – KO OLINA win, saver on GRATUS at value.

1 GRATUS *** Slowly away and knocked over in straight last start. Poorly drawn but grade suits and could improve at odds. 20

2 LEO *** Took over into straight last start and held on over 1100m in this grade. Has fewer convictions than most. Rises 2.5kg and could repeat. 3.00

3 KO OLINA *** Worried out of it last start when resuming and gets tongue-tie. Shows more promise than most here. Can get the job done. 3.00

4 MY HORSE *** Showed some improvement last start at first outing in Class 5. Hasn’t won for a long time but now finds himself in the weakest grade. Can show up from the good gate. 6.00

5 AMAZING MAN * Drops in grade but best efforts over longer. 33

6 HEAVENLY HAND ** Freshened after returning with respiratory issues last start. Previous form fair and won over 1200m five starts back. Poor draw a concern. 14

7 SUN ELIZABETH ** Well beaten but fought on over this trip last start. That was best effort for a while. 10

8 GOLDEN SPARK * Has won six times over this trip the last being 10 starts back. Will be prominent. 25

9 INVINCIBLE MAN ** Well beaten but battled on in similar company last start when resuming. Poorly drawn but can improve. 10

10 ALARANCH ** Has speed and placed over this trip three starts back. Recent form moderate but all three wins have been over 1000m. 25

11 MIGHTY PHOENIX * Battles only. 50

12 BELL AIR * Finds it hard to beat a runner home. 100

Race 2

Selections; 8 MR MALEK – 7 IRON RULER – 12 SUPERMAX – 6 GOLD SPIRIT

Not a lot of good exposed form to go on in this Restricted Maiden with the exceptions being MR MALEK, IRON RULER and the emergency, MISTER DYNAMO. Of the trio, MR MALEK had support and ran on solidly at debut, should be improved and from gate one will be hardest to beat. The likely danger is IRON RULER, who was green but ran on well at debut; the gate may test but he should be improved and being by Dissident, the extra distance will suit. Of the newcomers, SUPERMAX placed in a Cranbourne trial before arrival and is bred for speed, while GOLD SPIRIT, GOD’S GIFT and EUNOS AVE THREE have trialled well enough to consider with the market best guide. Be very wary if the emergency MR DYNAMO gets a start as his 2YO form is up to this. Betting Strategy – MR MALEK win.

1 LEMON SQUASH * Poorly drawn and needs to improve on debut. 33

2 DARLING ** Resuming. Well back at debut but showed improvement at recent trial where well held. Keep safe. 25

3 ASSASSIN * Distanced at debut. Needs to improve. 50

4 EUNOS AVE THREE *** By Swiss Ace out of an Encosta De Lago mare. Half-brother High Shine won 3 races. Trialled well. Poorly drawn but should have speed. Watch market. 10

5 GOD’S GIFT *** By Haradasun. Trialled solidly as Helios. Worth thought. 25

6 GOLD SPIRIT *** Argentinean-bred by Orpen. Trialled well enough to wonder on debut. 10

7 IRON RULER *** Green and ran on well at debut. Should be improved and extra distance will suit although gate may test. 4.00

8 MR MALEK *** Had support and ran on solidly at debut. Should be improved. From gate one may be hardest to beat. 3.00

9 PING PONG * By El Roca out of a Snippetson mare. Trialled OK as The Rock. Draw a concern on debut. 16

10 RUMBLE * By Onemorenomore. Dam has produced some useful winners including 9-timer Scat Singer. Did not show up at trial. 25

11 SUPERLATIVE * By Ferlax out of a Pins mare. Did not show up at trial. 33

12 SUPERMAX *** By Reward For Effort out of a Canny Lad mare Bouchette. Bred for speed. Shown glimpses at trials in Australia and locally. Market best guide. 5.00

13 WATER ROCKET * Went forward but weakened at debut. Poorly drawn. 33

14 MERYL * Only battled at debut. Needs to improve. 50

15 MISTER DYNAMO *** Just missed at debut but found class too strong in Golden Horseshoe. Will find this easier and can consider. 8.00

16 PISCA PISCA * Experienced but back in trip and only battles. 25

Race 3

Selections; 2 MR FAT KIDDY – 6 LUCKY TRIO – 8 BEST BAY – 1 SUN FORMATION

A competitive Maiden with several that probably should have won by now taking part. The one with most credentials is MR FAT KIDDY who has placed at five of six outings including three times over 1400m; he has rarely been far away and gets another chance. The one with least convictions is LUCKY TRIO who was runner-up on debut and did the same last start although well beaten; he has been freshened and should be hard to hold off. Of the others, BEST BAY has placed at three of his past four outings and from a good gate with a 3kg claim gets another chance to break through, while the enigma is SUN FORMATION who placed at seven of 10 Australian starts and continued the trend running third at his Singapore debut; he has ‘non-winner’ written all over him but should get a good run throughout and can be in the finish. Betting Strategy – MR FAT KIDDY win.

1 SUN FORMATION *** Placed at seven of 10 Australian starts and continued the trend running third at Singapore debut. Has been trying for a while but should get a good run throughout and can be in the finish. 5.00

2 MR FAT KIDDY *** Has placed at five of six outings including three at this trip. Rarely far away and gets another chance. 3.00

3 NATE’S HONOUR ** Led before fading last start over this trip. Awkwardly drawn but could go forward again. 6.00

4 FLYING SKY * Saddle slipped last start but needs to improve on efforts to date. 50

5 SUMMER GLITTER ** Yet to place in six starts but races handy enough to include in exotics in this field. 50

6 LUCKY TRIO *** Runner-up on debut and did the same last start, albeit well beaten. Has been freshened and should be hard to hold off. 3.50

7 NEWTON * Has shown nothing at both outings. 50

8 BEST BAY *** Has placed at three of past four outings. Well drawn and with 3kg claim gets another chance to break through. 5.00

9 CHER * Needs to improve efforts to date. 50

10 BEAUTY SPIRIT * Needs to improve on debut. 33

Race 4

Selections; 2 IRVING LIPSCHITZ – 7 O’WHAT A FEELING – 5 HIGHER SOUL – 13 MILLENNIUM’S RULE

The one with upside in this field of Class 4 journeymen is the Lee Freedman-trained IRVING LIPSCHITZ. The 4YO has been a consistent performer with three wins from six starts, the most recent being first up in this class over 1400m. With the 3kg claim for Simon Kok, he carries the same weight as last start and might be better than Class 4. The blinkers go back on O’WHAT A FEELING after he made some ground last start and is better by suited this trip; third-up he will be reaching peak fitness and should be running on. Of the rest that have winning credentials over the mile, MILLENNIUM’S RULE ran on late last start and will appreciate 1600m, as will HIGHER SOUL who placed last start from a wide gate and expect mush the same. An improver could be SUN CONQUEROR who dead-heated this trip before arriving, while the class dropper – WONDERFUL PAINT – should need longer but will work into this late. Betting Strategy – IRVING LIPSCHITZ win.

1 WONDERFUL PAINT ** Like to see over longer but improves lengths dropping to Class 4 and will work into this late. 12

2 IRVING LIPSCHITZ *** Won narrowly when resuming over 1400m. With 3kg claim carries same weight. Consistent and might be better than most of these although wide gate is of some concern. 3.00

3 LAI MAK MAK ** Did it tough last start so effort late suggests he can be followed over the mile. 20

4 WELL BRED * Needs to improve on efforts since arrival. 33

5 HIGHER SOUL *** Ran on well late last start. Poorly drawn (again) but should make his presence felt at the business end. 12

6 SUN CONQUEROR ** Only battled at first Singapore outing but won (dead heat) at Cranbourne over this trip three starts back. Poorly drawn but could improve. 12

7 O’WHAT A FEELING *** Blinkers back on. Made some ground last start and better suited this trip. Fitter now, third-up and should be running on. 5.00

8 DREAMER LEGEND * Has struggled since win this class and distance five starts back. Down in weight and could run on. 20

9 ZA’EEM * Battling since resuming but gets up to winning trip and could improve. 20

10 AUSPICIOUS DAY * Poorly drawn and needs to improve on recent efforts. 33

11 PLATO * Broke through in Class 5 last start over this trip. Will find this harder but has no weight and only other win was at this trip. 20

12 YULONG SHENG LONG ** Has placed at past two outings in this grade. Should be thereabouts again. 14

13 MILLENNIUM’S RULE *** Ran on late last start and will appreciate 1600m. Has won this class and distance previously. With 3kg claim should be closing late. 6.00

14 ARCHIE * Racing well in Class 5 but will find this harder. 50

15 JUST LANDED * Placed in this class three starts back but has battled in Novice company since. Blinkers off and should appreciate longer trip. 16

16 OPTIMUM STAR * Only wins are on poly and better in Class 5. 50

Race 5

Selections; 4 KUDA BAGUS – 2 GLAMOROUS – 1 LORD JUSTICE – 6 MR ROCKWELL

Most of these that have been battling for a while but there are a few in form that will make it a competitive affair. The one knocking on the door is KUDA BAGUS who just missed over 1200m last start, the step up to 1400m should suit and from the good gate with Benny Woodworth up, he gets his chance to break through. GLAMOROUS has been trying for a while and was run down over this trip last start; he is awkwardly drawn but has the speed to go forward and give a sight. LORD JUSTICE has placed without being a threat at both outings since resuming after bleeding attack but the step up in trip may help. The field drops away after these though the resuming MR ROCKWELL trialled well and did enough last preparation to warrant consideration in this field; watch for support. Betting Strategy – KUDA BAGUS win.

1 LORD JUSTICE *** Battled away to place at both outings since resuming after bleeding attack. Step up in trip may help. 5.00

2 GLAMOROUS *** Has been trying for a while but placed three of four outings at this trip. Poorly drawn but has the speed to go forward. 3.50

3 ROCK ME EASY * Has shown little since resuming. 33

4 KUDA BAGUS *** Just missed over 1200m last start. Consistent and gets his chance to break through. 2.00

5 DAWNING GOLD * Has shown nothing to date. 50

6 MR ROCKWELL *** Resuming. Trialled well but best efforts have been over longer. Could show up fresh. Watch market. 6.00

7 FIREWORKS * Did not show up when resuming. Needs to improve. 50

8 GENERAL CHENG * Unsighted at debut. Improvement needed. 50

9 QUEEN OF QUEENS * Did nothing when resuming. One placing in 20 starts. 50

10 STELLA POLARE * Winkers to blinkers but yet to place in seven outings. 50

11 MAJESTY WARRIOR * Well beaten at both outings. 50

Race 6

Selections; 2 O’REILLY STAR – 5 PACIFIC MYSTICAL – 6 SPUR ME ON – 3 ACCUMULATION

Most of these are career Class 5’s and none win out of turn if at all. O’REILLY STAR just missed two starts back in a similar race and battled on solidly last start on turf; he has only won once in 27 starts but has to be one of the main chances in this. The class and distance specialist is SPUR ME ON who has won five times at the trip, while VESONTIO has only won one of 21 starts but has been close up at recent outings. PACIFIC MYSTICAL battled away last start and has won twice over this trip and SOUTHERN GLORY has struggled at his past two outings but previous form was sound in this class and distance. Include YULONG SHENGDAO and ACCUMULATION in exotics. Betting Strategy – O’REILLY STAR small win, saver on ACCUMULATION at odds.

1 DAZZLE GOLD * Form hopeless but gets headgear added down in grade so could improve. 33

2 O’REILLY STAR *** Just missed two starts back in similar race and battled on last start on turf. One of the main chances. 4.00

3 ACCUMULATION *** Sixteen start maiden but has placed three of four outings at this trip. Will run on at value. 16

4 ORDOS LEGEND * Led before being run down over this trip three starts back but nothing last time out and remains a Maiden after 13 starts. 33

5 PACIFIC MYSTICAL *** Battled away last start and has won twice over this trip. Should be handy for Michael Rodd. 5.00

6 SPUR ME ON *** Disappointed at first start back in Class 5 but is a specialist this class and distance winning five times. Can improve with a positive ride. 5.00

7 HIGH STREET ** Ran on well to place last start and can consider. 33

8 YULONG SHENGDAO *** Run down late last start. Can go forward and be hard to pass. 10

9 MISS MICHELLE * Only one win in 18 starts but battles away one-pace over this trip. Could show up. 25

10 SOUTHERN GLORY *** Has struggled at past two outings but previous form sound this class and distance. Well drawn and with senior rider can improve. 6.00

11 VESONTIO *** Has only won one of 21 but close up at recent outings. Well drawn and with John Powell should be prominent. 6.00

12 LOVE ME TENDER * Tested. 50

Race 7

Selections; 1 ELITE POWER – 4 SPECIAL KING – 8 GRAND KOONTA – 7 SAFEER

An interesting Class 2 with a couple proven at the level taking on a pair of up-and-comers. ELITE POWER is very consistent and is the highest rated runner in the field. The 5YO won over 1400m in this grade two starts back and fought hard on the poly over 1000m last start; he is the benchmark and will be strongest late. SPECIAL KING was narrowly beaten in similar company last start and with a 3kg claim will be prominent for a long way. The first of the improvers is SAFEER who is up in class but is in form and the distance suits; he drops 6.5kg on last start win in Class 3 and should be running on. The other main chance is GRAND KOONTA who has shown promise since arriving from UK, just missed behind SAFEER last start and whilst this is harder, has no weight and should get a god run for Alysha Collett. Betting Strategy – ELITE SPIRIT, SPECIAL KING forecast.

1 ELITE POWER *** Very consistent and won over 1400m in this grade two starts back. Fought hard on poly over 1000m last start and should be in the finish. 3.00

2 SUPER FORTUNE * Needs to improve on recent efforts. 33

3 CURVATURE * Weakened badly last start over 1400m with jockey reporting he didn’t handle track conditions. Roarer start before. Take on trust. 33

4 SPECIAL KING *** Narrowly beaten in similar company last start. With 3kg claim will be prominent for a long way. 3.00

5 DUTROW ** Only battled on poly last start. Led before fading late in Class 1 over this trip at start prior. Should be prominent. 14

6 MAGIC WAND * Distanced in Singapore Derby. Drops back to more suitable trip but class may test. 33

7 SAFEER *** Up in class but in form and distance suits. Drops 6.5kg on last start win and should be running on. 4.00

8 GRAND KOONTA *** Has shown promise since arriving from UK. Just missed in Class 3 last start behind Safeer and can show up with no weight. 4.50

Race 8

Selections; 9 NEO’S CLASSIC – 11 DRAGONITE – 5 SUGARTIME JAZZ – 2 EVIL SPEEDO

Exotic punters would be fuming a race like this raffle is the second leg of the jackpot or quaddie, especially when a few of the horses that look due in NEO’S CLASSIC, DRAGONITE, EVIL SPEEDO and SUGARTIME JAZZ have all drawn wide. But the winner should come from that quartet (we hope) with all having some good recent form over this trip and track. Of the others to include in exotics, JK FLASH could improve at his first try over the mile, SHE’S THE ONE is suited stepping up in trip, while SHANGANI placed last start on the turf over 2000m but is a query on the Poly. Betting Strategy – NEO’S CLASSIC small win.

1 JK FLASH ** Maiden trying the mile for the first time and has shown glimpses so market good guide in this weak field. 7.00

2 EVIL SPEEDO *** Battled at two runs this campaign but better on the Poly so will improve. Keep safe. 7.00

3 HOOGA NET * Winkers to blinkers but impossible on recent form. 50

4 QINGDAO * Maiden who gets a tongue-tie but struggles. 50

5 SUGARTIME JAZZ *** Showed little over 1200m last start but looked due prior over this trip so must be considered. 4.00

6 GIFTED HEART * Blinkers off but struggling. 50

7 METEOR LOUI * Blinkers off but struggling. 50

8 SHE’S THE ONE ** Form reads terribly but steps up to the right trip for the first time for a long time so could improve at odds. 20

9 NEO’S CLASSIC *** Drawn wide but this field is weak and wins without surprising. 4.00

10 SHANGANI ** Maiden who has found form on the turf but wide draw and Poly form a concern. 6.00

11 DRAGONITE *** Ignore last start on the turf as looked due on the Poly prior an gets his chance in this field. 5.00

12 SCOOTER * Will lead, will fade. 50

13 RICHIE RICH * Blinkers off and no. 100

Race 9

Selections; 8 ELITE INCREDIBLE – 10 GOLD STAR – 7 REAL SUCCESS – 11 QUADCOPTER

Arguably one of the best Class 3 fields seen for a while or at least one of the most intriguing with the likely favourite – ELITE CONQUEST – having question marks on his turf form. The US-bred 5YO raced exclusively at Woodbine in Canada on the synthetic before arriving and while showing plenty when running on very well at his recent Poly start in Singapore, his only turf run at Kranji – albeit from a wide gate – was unplaced so he looks a risk. His ‘elite stablemate’ – ELITE INCREDIBLE – may be the one to beat. The Cliff Brown-trained 4YO was obviously disappointing to be beaten as the odds on elect last start in Class 4 but his 3YO Group form behind Top Knight will hold up in this sort of a race and he will be hard to hold out. GOLD STAR is another Cliff Brown promising type who showed enough at 3YO Group level to follow in a race like this with NATIONALITY, WASSERGEIST, REAL SUCCESS and QUADCOPTER all also winning hopes. Betting Strategy – ELITE INCREDIBLE win, saver on GOLD STAR.

1 ONLY WIN * Gets tongue-tie but yet to fire a shot this campaign. 100

2 ELITE CONQUEST *** US-bred and was unplaced at only turf start in Singapore but flew to just miss last start and should be hard to hold out from gate 1. 3.20

3 ROBIN HOOD ** Jockey suggested issues last start and may grow a leg back on the turf over his best trip. Keep safe. 20

4 NATIONALITY *** Foot well and truly on the till and in this a long way from gate 4 with handy 3kg claim. 6.00

5 WASSERGEIST *** Just battled away last start on the Poly but better suited back on his winning surface and goes close. 8.00

6 CHALAZA ** Always some show in races like this and can figure in exotics at value. 20

7 REAL SUCCESS *** Won in Class 4 this trip at second start in Singapore. Pay to follow as looked a handy type before arriving. 6.00

8 ELITE INCREDIBLE *** Yet to win in Singapore and beaten as the odds on pop last start in Class 4 but trip suits, has placed at 3YO Group level and can win this. 4.00

9 SIAM WARRIOR * Competitive since Class 4 win and gets winkers but this does look a very good field so place at best. 33

10 GOLD STAR *** Progressive type who looks suited to 1400m in this company and looks a good value option. 20

11 QUADCOPTER *** Just won in Novice Company last start but well placed with 50kg here so keep safe. 12

Race 10

Selections; 5 HUGO – 4 YULONG EXPRESS – 6 SEA DRAGON – 10 TINGLE MARC

With no regular Class 4 horses in consistent form or ready to win, three last start maiden winners in YULONG EXPRESS, HUGO and SEA DRAGON all get a chance to knock in another win early in their respective careers. Coincidentally, all three will jump from awkward gates and it is the apprentice TH Koh who faces the biggest challenge on SEA DRAGON after drawing gate 12. Michael Rodd – who rode Sea Dragon to his last start win – retains the ride on YULONG EXPRESS and obviously his preference is a pointer and the gun Aussie hoop can go forward from gate 9 and make every post a winner. But HUGO may beat them both. The 4YO took nine starts to break his maiden status but that was by some six lengths and given it was at his only start on the Poly, he has to be the one to beat with Simon Kok staying on-board. Blanket over most others with some Class 4 form to their name with one eye on TINGLE MARC from gate 1 with headgear added. Betting Strategy – HUGO win.

1 TERRIFIC * Resuming after one first up run late in 2018. Market only guide on moderate trial form. 50

2 DUSSELDORF ** Never involved and disappointing last start but did look due prior and may appreciate the Poly. 12

3 HOWL ** In solid form, will figure prominently throughout and worth an eye-way look. 12

4 YULONG EXPRESS *** Broke maiden status in fine style with support on the turf last start but handles the Poly and can give a sight with Rodd staying on-board. 3.00

5 HUGO *** Turned some good turf form into a explosive six-length win at first start on the Poly and can win again. 3.00

6 SEA DRAGON *** Another impressive last start maiden winner who can win races like this but will need luck from the wide alley. 6.00

7 SIAM SAPPHIRE * Battling. 100

8 ATLANTEAN * OK late last start and will enjoy the Poly but better suited in Class 5. 20

9 HEART OF COURAGE ** Saddle slipped last start and not far away and pay to include in exotics. 15

10 TINGLE MARC ** Never involved from wide gate last start so worth a look at odds from the ace with headgear added. 20

11 GOOD CATCH ** Returned to some form last start and saddle slipped so worth keeping safe. 20

12 SUPER TALENT ** Yet to win in Singapore and drawn terribly but enjoys the Poly and another to include in exotics. 20

13 FLYING YELLOW * Back in trip and struggling. 100

14 I AM INVISIBLE * Also back in trip and struggling. 100
