Ken Nicol: Alyson Wright appears the stable to follow regarding Greyville on Wednesday as the yard have chances throughout at this turf meeting.
But towering above the rest is Matterhorn in Race 3 – a Maiden 1400m.
The Marchfield gelding showed good pace on debut, before keeping on for fourth against previous winners.
And that form was heavily underlined on Gold Cup day.
First victor Alibi Guy won another Juvenile Plate and remains undefeated, while later third placed Liberty Hall was a smashing second to highly impressive Got The Greenlight in the Grade 1 Premiers Champions Stakes.
Matterhorn jumps one off the paint, and in moderate maiden company can be expected to lead this field a merry dance. Worth a serious bet and can be bankered in all exotics.
Next up is Sea Sponge in Race 5. The reliable gelding has only finished unplaced in five starts on the turf here, and should be heavily involved in the MR68 over 1800m.
It’s a similar story in Race 6, where 1600m specialist Roy’s Pony is overdue to record her fifth career win. The mare has been going close over further lately, but dropping back to her favourite trip may just be enough to get her into the number one box again.
Closing off what should be a good day for Wright and jockey Raymond Danielson is Someone Exciting in Race 8.
The lightly raced mare does face males in this MR70 over 1400m,but has as good a chance as any in an extremely open looking closing event.
