Callan Murray back

Callan Murray back

POPULAR South African jockey Callan Murray is on his way back to South Africa after stints in Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Murray, who turns 23 at month-end, has has decided to cut short his riding licence in Singapore, which was due to expire in December.

He hasn’t enjoyed the best of opportunities in Singapore, but at this stage of his promising young career experience is worth more than stacks of winners and he is sure to be among the log-leaders back home again.

Murray said in a statement today: “Nothing teaches you more about yourself than going to a foreign place! The people I have met, the horses I have ridden and the experiences I have encountered have undoubtedly made me even hungrier to succeed. The fire is blazing stronger than ever as I go back to South Africa and know I will have to fight for rides but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I would like to thank the Singapore Jockey Club for the opportunity to ride in Singapore as well as all the trainers and owners that supported me along the way.

This Saturday marks the next chapter of my journey as I open up another South African stint at Turffontein. It is time to put in the hard yards and I am looking forward to a prosperous season back home.”
