Peter Wrensch got off the mark as a trainer when Captain Garett won Race 1 at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Wrensch took over Ronnie Sheehan’s small string when the veteran passed away late last year, and had been training under his own name since November.
But a first victory had eluded him until Captain Garett kept on gamely to win the Workriders Maiden over 1200m by just under half a length.
“Ronnie and Jackie (Sheehan) would both be thrilled. Especially as he’s out of Lola Bud, who was their pride and joy. Her first foal was Watch Me Dad who won a couple, and this one should go more ground” said an elated Wrensch.
And he was quick to thank his main owner, Mauritian Didier Hurree.
“He’s got six with me, and has brought in some Mauritian owners. Without him I wouldn’t have a yard” was Wrensch’s frank summation.
