Ken Nicol: The official launch of the 2020 Sun Met took place in ultra trendy surrounds at the iconic Zeitz MOCAA art gallery in Cape Town’s Waterfront on Tuesday evening.
The glitzy and extremely well attended media event was graced by many local celebrities and public figures.
These included the lovely current Miss SA Zozibizi Tunzi, and the Mayor of Cape Town Mr Dan Plato.
The theme for the big day on February 1 is African Luxury : Visionaries.
This calls on all race goers to feel inspired by their inner most vision, creativity and innovation and arrive ready to transform Africa’s Richest Race Day into a harmony of epic colour, style and imagination.
The function was hosted by Bonang Matheba, and she was happy to unveil her own House of BNG as an official celebration partner providing their MCC Brut and Brut Rose.
“It is my great honour to join the celebration and the thrill of The Sun Met – Africa’s Richest Race Day. House of BNG and this year’s theme: African Luxury: Visionaries are a match made in heaven! We are excited to celebrate gorgeous fashion, the glamour of the races and all the lucky winners of the day!”
A number of luminaries made contributions at the mike.
“I am very pleased that the City of Cape Town is associated with this wonderful event. I can feel the vibe of this wonderful crowd” said Mayor Plato.
Main sponsor Sun International were represented by their CEO Anthony Leeming.
“This is our fourth year of association with the Sun Met. It’s been fantastic for our brand and for Cape Town. This event is starting to evolve into something truly special and Sun International are honored to welcome House of BNG and the City of Cape Town to the Sun Met family alongside great partners such as Phumelela, Circa, Tanqueray, Stella Artois, Capitec and American Swiss,” he enthused.
Phumelela Sports Betting and Media Executive Rob Scott was up next.
“It’s fantastic the City Of Cape Town is involved this year, and both Phumelela and Kenilworth Racing are proud to be associated with Sun International.
“They continue to innovate year after year. This will be an elegant and exhilarating demonstration of Africa’s finest” was his comment.
An exciting announcement entertainment wise is that world renowned DJ Black Coffee will be entertaining the vast crowd expected.
Bonang ended with an excellent word of practical advice for ‘first timers’.
“Ladies you must bring flat shoes” she quipped, referring to the fact that the lush turf of Kenilworth and stiletto heels do not make natural bedfellows.
