Fate beckons at Durbanville

Ken Nicol: Twist Of Fate makes his seasonal reappearance in a Pinnacle Stakes at Durbanville on Saturday, and stands out as a banker in all bets.

This ultra-game Master Of My Fate colt won a Grade 2 race and two Grade 3s last season, as well as recording no less than four Grade 1 places.

His only previous run over 1400m was almost exactly a year ago in the Cape Classic where he gave classy Cirillo 2kg and a solid beating.

Even with 61kg he should prove far too strong for the opposition here, and he is well in by 5kg on official ratings.

Joey Ramsden hedged his bets regarding a jockey, but Stuart Randolph was finally declared on Friday, and the highly experienced rider should come home untroubled before moving on to bigger targets.

Wild Coast looks an exciting prospect and has a great chance of following up his recent maiden win in Race 2 over 1400m.

The first foal of champion Beach Beauty was a fluent winner over 1250m here a month ago, and should go in again, despite the presence of another decent three-year-old in Vaughan Marshall’s Path Of Choice.

Another who catches the eye is Freedom Seeker in Race 1.

This Patrick Kruyer-trained Australian bred filly is out of local Grade 1 winner Asylum Seeker, and after missing the break on debut she made eye-catching late progress over 1000m here to finish fifth.

The 1250m trip will suit her much better, and with the benefit of that experience should have every chance of breaking her maiden at the second time of asking.

But she does have opposition, as both Aye Aye and Sweet Karma look sure to win a race sooner than later as well.
