Singapore Sunday preview

Singapore Sunday preview

Sunday December 1 – Kranji meeting Preview, selections, comments and odds.

Courtesy Larry Foley,

Truth be told there are some ordinary races from Singapore on Sunday but good things come to those that wait and races nine and ten look good one’s for punters.

The exciting MY DREAMLINER makes a return to the track in race 9 and the Poly specialist looks one of the better bets on the day.

A 4YO by the US-bred sire Dream Ahead, MY DREAMLINER burst onto the scene back in December 2018 when winning well enough on debut on the Poly before stamping his class with a six-length Class 4 win at start two.

Although not disgraced, he did lower his colours on the turf at his next start when finishing fourth and another unplaced Poly effort suggested it was time for a short spell.

An easy win – again on the Poly – when resuming back in July suggested all was OK and although not being seen since, he obviously goes very well first up after a break and 1000m on the all-weather track is his thing.
CHALAZA is not as obvious as MY DREAMLINER in a Poly sprint, however, the five-time winner is better than Class 4 and he will be hard to hold out in the lucky last.

Yes, he did leave it a tad late when running on last start in this company, however, he did have traffic excuses into the straight and in this field you would expect Michael Rodd to give him every chance when it matters.

Best Bets: (MY DREAMLINER race 9, win), (CHALAZA race 10, win), and (JK FLASH race 8, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 7 (Field), race 8 (Field), race 9 (2), race 10 (1).

Race 1
This is a competitive Class 5 with a few in form in the grade plus some class droppers to make things interesting. Of those with form in the grade, MISS MICHELLE is the standout having won her past two outings; she steps up in trip but has placed up to 1600m and rising only 0.5kg she will be hard to beat again. Of the class droppers, PRATT STREET has been around for a while and his last win was this class, surface and distance; back in the right grade with a good gate and Michael Rodd to ride he can go forward and be hard to pass. RAPID FIRE won his Maiden easily over this trip but struggled thereafter; he has had two outings since resuming and dropping to Class 5 with blinkers and 4kg claim can improve. Of the others, BORN TO WIN won last start but his poly form is suspect, while YULONG FIRE should need longer but placed last start and will be running on.

Betting Strategy – PRATT STREET win.

1 BORN TO WIN ** Broke through to win in this grade over 1400m. Has struggled at previous poly starts but trialled well and from good gate should be handy throughout. 8.00
2 PRATT STREET *** Drops in grade and last win was this class and distance on poly. Well drawn and with Michael Rodd should be prominent 5.00
3 RAPID FIRE *** Has benefited from two outings in Class 4 since resuming. Gets blinkers and with 4kg claim in Class 5 can improve. Only win was this surface and distance. 4.00
4 YULONG FIRE ** Ran on to place over this trip at first outing since dropping into Class 5. Might like longer but gets 2kg claim and will be running on. 4.00
5 MISS MICHELLE *** Has won past two Class 5 outings. Up in trip but has placed up to 1600m and rises only 0.5kg. Should be prominent again. 3.00
6 ALL OF EVERYTHING * Has shown nothing to date. 50
7 HELLO MICHELLE * Hasn’t won for a long time and needs to improve on recent efforts. 33
8 JUMPIN JACK * Placed three starts back but has struggled since. Needs longer with visor removed. 25
9 EVERYBODY HAPPY * Placed five starts back on turf but hasn’t won for a long time. 33
10 PISTACHIO * Struggled when resuming and has shown nothing in four outings. 50
Race 2
A very weak maiden on paper with no standout. LORD JUSTICE showed early promise but has had lameness and respiratory issues at his past two starts. His recent trial was solid and the drop back in trip may be to his advantage; from gate four he can push forward and be hard to hold off. The Donna Logan-trained GOOD LUCK CHARM is resuming after a long break but has placed at three of six starts and this distance suits; he gets blinkers and from a good gate can give a sight. NINETYSIX WARRIOR battled on solidly at debut, is well drawn and can improve. Of the others NINGALOO showed speed at debut but has to overcome the gate. In what is a moderate field watch for market moves on the first starters WINNING POWER, THEODORE and GOLD ZEST.

Betting Strategy – LORD JUSTICE small win.

1 LORD JUSTICE *** Has had lameness and respiratory issues at past two starts. Previous efforts sound and trial was solid. Drops in trip and can be prominent. 3.00
2 GOOD LUCK CHARM *** Resuming after long break. Has placed at three of six starts and this distance suits. Gets blinkers and from good gate can give a sight. 4.00
3 ITOLDYOUSO * Resuming after bleeding attack. Has only battled to date. 33
4 COMMAND & CONTROL * Resuming with blinkers. Bred to stay and will find these too sharp on efforts to date. 50
5 GOLD ZEST ** By Highly Recommended. Trials have been solid and worth thought from gate 2. 14
6 NINETYSIX WARRIOR *** Battled on solidly at debut. Well drawn and can improve. 4.00
7 HOSTWIN QUEEN * Has battled at all five outings but should be prominent. 25
8 YOU ARE SPECIAL * Has shown nothing to date. 50
9 GOLDEN SHOW * Unsighted at both outings. 50
10 NINGALOO *** Led and faded final 100m on debut. Gate no help but has speed. 8.00
11 THEODORE * By The Factor. Dam has been a good producer with 4 winners. Did not show up at trial. Watch market. 14
12 WINNING POWER ** American bred by Super Saver. Trialled solidly. Watch market. 14
13 LADY BOSS * Has done nothing in 13 starts. 50
14 ANTARES * No. 50

Race 3
Another poor quality Class 4 where most are more comfortable in Class 5. HOSAYLIAO got too far back after being caught wide last start and was close-up at his two previous starts following a narrow maiden win; with Harry Kasim to ride from a good gate he can go forward and may be hardest to beat. I AM BEAUTIFUL has speed and held on to win a weak Maiden narrowly last start; this is harder but she gets blinkers and as a 3YO filly, may have more upside than most of these. NORTHERN SUN hasn’t won for a while but is suited this class and made some ground last start; his last win was at this trip and with Daniel Moor he can be strong late. EFFORTLESS is a long-time non-winner but regularly places and is suited in this grade; he will be running on. The field falls away after these but MY HORSE has speed and can be included in exotics.

Betting Strategy – HOSAYLIAO each-way.

1 EFFORTLESS *** Finds it hard to win but regularly places. Will be running on. 5.00
2 I AM BEAUTIFUL *** Held on to win narrowly last start in weekend field. This is harder but gets blinkers and can be prominent. 3.50
3 NORTHERN SUN *** Made some ground last start. Suited this company and last win was this trip. Will be running on. 4.00
4 HIGH LIMIT * Appreciates being back on the Poly but may need Class 5. 20
5 GOLD COAST * Won Class 5 three starts back but has battled since. Needs easier. 20
6 HOSAYLIAO *** Got too far back after being caught wide last start. Close up at two previous starts following maiden win. From good gate will be handy throughout. 3.00
7 MY HORSE ** Won Class 5 three starts back but has struggled since. Has the speed to be prominent. 12
8 NADEEM SAPPHIRE * Resuming after bleeding attack. Form last preparation moderate. Watch market. 33
9 LIM’S RIPPLE * Recent efforts moderate and best form is over longer. 50

Race 4
An extremely weak Maiden where the majority have been trying for some time without success. The 3YO ZOFFSPEED may be the one with upside; he was not far away last start over this trip, is well drawn, should get a good run throughout and gets a chance to break through. HUNTSMAN went forward but was found out late over 1400m last start; he has been improved by two outings since resuming and if he gets a patient ride by Michael Rodd, this trip on the poly may suit. ACCUMULATION can be slowly away and gets a long way back but will be improved by his recent outing; he has placed at three of five starts over this trip and will run on. Of the others TITANIUM FORCE led before fading last start, by Rubick he has to be trusted at the extra distance but could give a sight.

Betting Strategy – ZOFFSPEED small win.

1 WASHINGTON * Well-beaten at all three outings but gets blinkers and step up in trip may help. 20
2 HUNTSMAN *** Went forward but found out late over 1400m last start. Improved by two outings since resuming and this trip on poly may suit. Expect a more patient ride. 3.00
3 ACCUMULATION *** Slowly away and only battled when resuming. Has placed at three of five starts over this trip and will run on from well back. 4.00
4 VICTORY JOY * Ran a distance placing four starts back but has nothing since. Failed at two previous 1600m attempts. 20
5 ZOFFSPEED *** Not far away last start over this trip with excuses not to finish closer. Well drawn and should get a good run throughout. 3.00
6 CLARTON SUPREME * Yet to place in ten starts and struggled on poly last outing. 20
7 TITANIUM FORCE ** Led before fading last start. Up in trip but could give a sight. 8.00
8 EASTERN VICTORY * Solid home last start but has been trying for a long time and yet to place in seven attempts at this trip. 33
9 SUCCESS STREET * Ran a distant placing on poly over 1700m three starts back but has been trying for a long time. 16
10 ALWRICH * Recent form not good enough. 50

Race 5
A competitive Class 5 with several having solid form in the class. LIM’S FORCE won over 1000m two starts back and battled on over 1200m last start; this trip is ideal and he will be prominent from the good gate. JK FORMIDABLE is first up after returning lame last start but his previous form was sound winning one of these three starts back; he too should be prominent and trials like a winner. Another to watch is the resuming SUPERTEN who is suited by this class and distance; from a good gate he can go forward and be hard to pass. EASY SOUTH EAST can disappoint but is always worth a look, while OVERCOMING is down in grade and should be the improver on the back of a good trial with Rodd to ride. For the exotics include SUPER EMPEROR who ran on to place last start and draws to do no work.

Betting Strategy – JK FORMIDABLE each-way.

1 LIM’S FORCE *** Won over 1000m two back and bad start looked costly last start. Suited this trip and will be prominent from the good gate. 4.00
2 OVERCOMING ** Freshened. Hasn’t won since arriving in Singapore eight starts back but drops in grade and gets blinkers so can improve. 10
3 SUPERTEN *** Resuming. Suited this class and distance. From good gate should be near the speed throughout. 3.00
4 JK FORMIDABLE *** Resuming with tongue-tie after returning lame last start. Trials good enough to win first up. 3.00
5 DAVID’S STAR * Struggling at the races but always trials like he has more to offer. 33
6 EASY SOUTH EAST *** Did it tough last start and can consider on form prior with tongue-tie back on. 9.00
7 SUPER EMPEROR ** Improved to place over 1000m when dropping to this class last start. Well drawn and can run on. 16
8 DON’T WORRY * Placed three starts back over 1000m after wide run but has struggled since over 1200m. Awkwardly drawn but drop back in trip helps. 33
9 BIG STAR * Winkers back on but needs to improve on recent efforts. 50
10 KING’S LANDING ** Shows potential but gives up easily. 50

Race 6
No depth to this Class 4 Poly sprint and while we will keep ROYAL PAVILION and to a lesser extent, MACH, safe, punters should focus on two lightly-raced conveyances in COMING THROUGH and SUPERMAX. And you can make a serious case for both horses with COMING THROUGH having won two from four career starts and SUPERMAX breaking his maiden status in fine style at start four. COMING THROUGH also had excuses for his two unplaced runs – irregular heart and lameness – and his win last start in this company suggests he is very good when right. And given SUPERMAX’s rider lost his irons for his only poor run, he also looks better than Class 4 and will win races like this. As mentioned, ROYAL PAVILION is some hope with best work expected late and MACH sans headgear is usually thereabouts. Forget the rest.

Betting Strategy – Box 2, 3 and 5 in all exotics.

1 YULONG XIONG HU * Resuming sans blinkers and will need much longer. 50
2 COMING THROUGH *** Won well last start after health issues at two starts prior. Wins if right. 2.20
3 SUPERMAX *** Excuses for only poor run and broke maiden status easily last start. Can win. 2.50
4 MY GOLD ** Competitive in this company but Class 5 looks his caper. 12
5 ROYAL PAVILION *** Needs race to suit back markers but will be very strong late and has to be respected. 7.00
6 MOONRAKER * Showed nothing when resuming and prefer to just watch. 33
7 MACH ** Did it tough last start from wide alley and some hope on form prior sans headgear. 10
8 CLASSIFIED * Needs to improve on recent form. 33
9 QIJI COMMANDER * Battling only and drawn wide. 50
10 UNCLE LUCKY * Reassess in Class 5. 50

Race 7

There won’t be too many worse races than this pitiful Class 5 1200m Poly sprint and it may pay to follow two KS Tan-trained horses in GLENAFTON and MY MONEY. If we had to pick one of them, GLENAFTON is a 3YO with fewer convictions than most here and has shown enough to think he can win a race like this with Michael Rodd a factor. MY MONEY probably has the better recent form on the board and gets to jump from gate 1 but he has had plenty of chances – he is a 23-start maiden – so he may not know how to win. The veteran, HOST THE NATION, hasn’t won for a long time but gets his chance in this weak field and take your pick of the rest.

Betting Strategy – very small win GLENAFTON.

1 HORSE KING * Appreciates first up run but should need longer again. 33
2 GRATUS ** Battles away as a rule and this field weak enough to include in exotics. 20
3 HOST THE NATION *** Veteran who hasn’t won for a very long time but is in solid form and may not get a better chance than this. 6.00
4 KUBERA’S CHIEF ** Shown nothing since winning four starts back but facing similar weak field here. 8.00
5 GLENAFTON *** Found some form and should go close in this field. 3.50
6 HELUSHKA ** Maiden whose only good run was this trip and track but usually battles. 12
7 SUGARTIME JAZZ * Lost form and having start 108. 20
8 RIVER HAPPINESS ** Maiden who has shown glimpses and could consider in exotics. 8.00
9 TIGER BOSS * Another maiden who battles as a rule. 33
10 BOHEMIAN ** Long-term maiden who has been OK of late in similar races to this so worth thought in exotics. 20
11 MY MONEY *** Maiden who has better form than most and gets his chance with gate 1 a factor. 4.00
12 ZAHIR ** Wide gate will test but certainly not the worst in this field. 20

Race 8
While this Class 5 has more quality than the previous race, the depth suggests it will just as hard to find the winner, especially given a few of the fancies will have to jump from sticky gates from the 1700m start. So with recent form and inside gates a starting point, BLUE CHIP and JK FLASH from gates 1 and 2 respectively look solid wining options. BLUE CHIP gets Michael Rodd and is in honest form so picks himself with support likely, while JK FLASH improved when blinkers went on last start and a subsequent good trial suggests he can frank that form with a win here. LUCKY TIGER (gate 11) and SPUR ME ON (12) have the form on the board to have a say but will need luck from the wide barriers, while ACE HARBOUR and YULONG HONOR can both win on recent form in what really is a raffle for punters. Go even wider in exotics and good luck.

Betting Strategy – JK FLASH small win.

1 YULONG HONOR *** Solid without being a threat at three starts in similar affairs since dropping to Class 5. Can figure. 12
2 ACE HARBOUR *** Will not win out of turn but in form and race suits so has to be a chance. 4.00
3 LUCKY TIGER *** Draw a concern but has early speed and in good form so goes close with a positive ride. 5.00
4 BEBOP ** Never involved last start and drawn wide for this but would win a race like this on best form. 20
5 BLUE CHIP *** Rarely seen on the Poly but gets blinkers from gate 1 and has to be some show on honest form. 6.00
6 AMAZING MAN ** Up in distance but versatile and always some hope in this company. 12
7 QINGDAO ** OK late last start and appreciates stepping up in trip. Keep safe. 33
8 SPUR ME ON *** In form, step up to 1700m a good move and can win with luck from wide alley. 6.00
9 JOYFUL ASPIRATION * Improved effort last start but may need something easier than this. 33
10 JK FLASH *** Backed up a good blinkers trial with good placing and pay to follow with gate 3 a bonus. 6.00
11 SCOOTER ** Wide draw a concern but can go forward and give a sight. 20
12 DREAM BIG * Battling. 50
13 SUN DRAGON * Showed improvement last start but easier to ignore. 40
14 CASSIS OOLONG * Up in trip and no. 100

Race 9
Probably one of the more exciting races on the card with MY DREAMLINER first up the one to watch. The 4YO has won three from five start but it is his dominant wins on the Poly that have him a horse to follow through the grades; he won first-up last start and can do so again on the back of a easy trial. And while he is up in class, nothing jumps off the page to beat him, although MAN OF MYSTERY does look due, blinker/pacifiers are added and gate 1 helps his chances with a 4kg claim a factor. KISS YOUR SONG is also due, will appreciate being back on the Poly and have every chance again from gate 4 with Kellady up. Last start winner – AL GREEN – also has claims and you can go even wider in exotics.

Betting Strategy – MY DREAMLINER win.

1 MISS DUSTY ** Had her issues of late but solid home last start and always some hope on best form. 20
2 MY DREAMLINER *** Resuming after good first-up win in Class 4. Three from four on the Poly and recent trial suggests he can win this. 2.30
3 AL GREEN *** Took a drop to Class 4 to win (with good support) and worth following with Rodd from gate 2. 6.00
4 KISS YOUR SONG *** Tried the turf last start when unplaced and back on his preferred surface. Will figure. 8.00
5 STAR KNIGHT ** Enjoys the poly but may need Class 4. 33
6 SUPER SIX ** Competitive last start but another better suited in Class 4. 33
7 FLAK JACKET ** Honest and always an each-way hope in races like this. 20
8 MAN OF MYSTERY *** Placed in similar affair last start and gets upgrade to blinker/pacifiers. Can win from gate 1 and no weight. 4.00
9 STUNNING CAT ** Respiratory issues last start and some hope on form prior although gate will test. 20
10 LIM’S KNIGHT ** Has been competitive without being a winning threat and will work home solidly late. 20
11 SNIP * Turned some good form into a win in Class 4 last start but this company and gate will test. 20
12 SUPERNOVA * Veteran who is desperate for easier company. 100

Race 10

While there are two last start winners in the field – FLAUNT and LOOKS GOOD – both won in Class 5, which should give the better credentialed CHALAZA a chance to win on his best form. The 7YO is a five-time winner and his efforts in better company than this should hold up in this with Rodd likely to give him every chance to run them down late. Nothing jumps off the page to beat him, although the veteran SUPERSONICSURPRISE will appreciate gate 5 and would give this a shake if having a good day, while BILLY MOJO first-up could also figure on best form. As mentioned, the two last start winners will have to improve again to win in this grade but both FLAUNT and LOOKS GOOD have been competitive previously in this company so should play a part. Forget the rest.

Betting Strategy – CHALAZA win.

1 CHALAZA *** Ran on well last start when dropping to this company. Can win if closer in running. 3.00
2 COUNTRY BOSS * Has been disappointing since big win five start back so take on trust. 20
3 BILLY MOJO ** Resuming after good run of form and recent trial solid. Gate 2 helps and can figure sans winkers. 4.00
4 FLAUNT ** Took a drop to Class 5 to win and drawn wide but was competitive in this company prior so a must for exotics. 6.00
5 IFFRAGAL * Resuming sans blinkers and like to see support before considering. 33
6 BEN GUNN * Resuming with tongue-tie but hard to have on form. 33
7 SMILING PROUD * Back in trip and may need easier and longer than this. 20
8 SUPERSONICSURPRISE *** Veteran who is mixing his form but goes good enough on his day to consider in this field from gate 5. 4.00
9 LOOKS GOOD ** Another Class 5 last start winner who will be competitive in this weak Class 4 field. 8.00
10 RED ROAR * Maiden who needs easier. 100
