LYLE AFTER HIS PREVIOUS HK WIN
Ken Nicol: Lyle Hewitson scored his second win in Hong Kong with a perfectly judged just about start to finish victory on rank outsider Kiram in Race 7 at Happy Valley on Wednesday.
The Class 3 Hung To Handicap was worth HK$1.45 million (R2.68 million), and Hewitson just held on from the fast finishing grey favourite Farshad.
Not too many local punters were cheering our current champion jockey home though, as Kiram returned just over R40 a win, and R8 a place.
Adding even more local flavour is the fact that Kiram is trained by David Ferraris, a name which needs no introduction to SA race enthusiasts.
That completed a highly satisfactory day for Hewitson, who had also finished third in both the opening two races.
Lyle’s first winning ride was Last Kingdom for Douglas Whyte on 29 December, so his next goal could be to come home for a trainer without an SA connection!
