BUNKER HUNT ENJOYING HIMSELF
Ken Nicol: The Sun Met horses spa day was hosted by Racing Its A Rush and Sun International at Sonwabe Beach near Muizenberg on Friday morning.
Justin Snaith brought both of his Sun Met contenders Do It Again and Bunker Hunt down, as well as Kasimir, Doublemint, and most of his other big race contenders.
The horses enjoyed walking in the surf, and were then given a chance to frolic in the sand, which they clearly relished.
Bernard Kantor has shares in both Do It Again and Kasimir, and was impressed.
“Do It Again looks a lot better already, and has definitely turned the corner. Whether another eight days is enough only time will tell. But Kasimir will be bang on” he commented about his two big guns.
Of course Mr Kantor also has an interest in a certain Vardy, so his loyalties will be divided come ten past five on 1 February.
Alec Foster was there to run his eye over his pair Doublemint and Strathdon who both appear in the 2800m New Turf Carriers Western Cape Stayers.
“Doublemint is very determined and likes a battle. Strathdon stays all day, and if there’s a decent pace it will suit him” was his summation of his two warriors.
Sun International Events and Entertainment manger Gareth Flusk was also in attendance.
“This is an opportunity to see these great equine competitors in a different environment. And of course it also serves to give the event some good exposure in the mainstream media” was how he summed up the object of the day.
