First salvo of the War

First salvo of the War

Ken Nicol: 2014 Grade 1 Cape Guineas winner Act Of War got his stud career off to a perfect start at Fairview on Friday.

His very first runner Daichi went start to finish in Race 2 – a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1000m.

The colt was well supported from 9-2 into 33-10, and never really looked like being beaten.

Tote favourite Wangan Midnight (also 33-10) was always in touch, but never managed to get on terms, and was half a length away when the line came.

“She’s got phenomenal gate speed. At first I thought it might be a false start. There’s still a lot more to come” said Gavin Smith’s main rider Marco van Rensburg.

Daichi is out of the Captain Al mare Darrie. She was moderate on the track, and none of her five previous foals have been any great shakes either.

But this one looks different.
