Brendan Gaillard – Blinkers can sometimes do the trick and that is definitely the case with the Gavin Smith-trained Love Talk.
This Ontario mare looked to be going nowhere before this equipment was added and she can go close to winning Race 6 at Fairview on Monday.
This five-year-old ran a decent third place behind course and distance specialist Believethisbeauty and then was again third to stable companion Cloud Atlas over 1300m in her second start with blinkers.
Stepped up to 1600m last time out also helped and Love Talk quickened best to beat Quakeshake who has won again since.
Love Talk will again have apprentice Julius Mphanya aboard, who knows her well and she is the one to beat.
Smith could also be saddling the first race winner as Hollywood Thunder has only found one too good for her in her last two starts.
Dropped back to the course and distance (1000m) of her best run, when narrowly beaten by Vivid Red, Hollywood Thunder has been very consistent of late and deserves her winning turn.
Rival trainer Alan Greeff must have deemed his filly Ascending Heights unlucky as she passed the post first last time out but had the race taken away from the Pathfork filly in the boardroom.
She clearly impeded Gina’s Girl late and the Stipendiary Stewards saw fit to change the result.
Ascending Heights clearly liked the step up in distance to 1900m last time and she can recoup some of the losses for her defeats in Race 4 today.
As usual for a meeting on the Fairview Polytrack it looks a tough meeting and hopefully we will have some winnings to wager in the last race as Dads Roots could be of some value.
This Wylie Hall gelding is coming off a nice win and it was the first time he tried blinkers.
