ALDO DOMEYER RIDES SPECTRA FORCE

Jack Milner: Spectra Force drops in class when he lines up for Race 7 at Kenilworth on Sunday and should make a winning return for trainers Harold Crawford and Michelle Rix.

The last time Spectra Force ran was on 22 February in the Listed Jet Master Stakes over 1600m on the Summer Course at Kenilworth.

The five-year-old gelding’s chances were not helped by a wide No 13 draw so it was not a bad effort to finish 5.35 lengths behind Crown Towers.

The winner went on to finish fourth in Saturday’s Grade 2 World Sports Betting 1900 at Greyville, a race won by Belgarion who has made his way into a number of punters’ shortlist for the Vodacom Durban July next month.

Spectra Force does take a jump in the weights as he carries top weight of 61kg, but he is at his best over this distance, is drawn well enough at No 7 and has the services of Aldo Domeyer.

In addition, the stable has been in good form since the return after the lockdown.

Late At Night had a nice comeback run when a 3.75-length third behind Yorktown and that was his first since having been gelded. It should have brought him on nicely and that should result in further improvement. He is not well drawn which is against him but the three-year-old son of Soft Falling Rain could be better than his rating.

Corne Orffer takes the ride.

Justin Snaith saddles three runners and Richard Fourie’s choice of Peaceful Day seems to indicate the three-year-old gelding is the stable elect. However, he does have a wide draw, which is a disadvantage over this course and distance and there could be value in taking Exactas and Swingers with Destin, the mount of Greg Cheyne.

This four-year-old son of Jackson has been the model of consistency and has a record of one win and seven places in 11 starts. Unfortunately he has not raced since May last year and lack of fitness is a concern.

On the positive side, the engagement of Cheyne, who partnered the four-year-old gelding in his last start could mean the connections could be expecting a reasonable effort.
