Race-by-race previews for Wednesday’s meeting at Happy Valley in Hong Kong.
Race 1: Fairy Floss showed good speed to lead last start and gave a good sight. Will do the same from barrier 1 under Purton and could be hard to run down. Adonis cannot be ignored at Class 5 level and if they burn along, would be hardest to hold out. Exponents recent runs have been encouraging and can run well with Moreira taking the ride. Yee Cheong Lucky go on the win two starts ago and give a chance here, capable of figuring in the finish. Ever Strong drops down in grade and start following. Drawn wide, but not out of it if he gets an economical run.
Race 2: Treasure Chest video replay showed last run was very good after an ill-judged ride. Royal Chocolate change of trainer recently and watch the betting. Trialled okay for it and is very well-rated these days. Shanghai Rusky best run to date was last start and appears to be improving, gets his chance from the low draw. Yes We Can drops down in grade and start following. Purton rides, but his recent trial was hard to like. All Times Grateful making Class 5 debut and must be respected. Has some Class 4 runs which would see him measure up here.
Race 3: Street Scream drops down in grade and start following. Moreira rode him to win a recent trial, looked well and strikes an even contest where he appears well-in. Lady First changed stables recently and has improved, and his last run was full of merit after failing to muster. Triple Triple had excuses last start when racing wide without cover in Class 3, back into Class 4 here and follow. Leading Fortune finished powerfully with fastest sectional time ranking last start. Top Military caused a surprise last start when winning at big odds – can he do it again?
Race 4: Eptiwins changed stables recently and has improved. Purton sticks with him and a win appears imminent. Natural Storm remains a maiden galloper but clearly gets a chance to win here after putting in some encouraging runs. Beauty Angel turned in a nice effort last run when finishing strongly. Moreira takes the ride now but he’ll need more luck from some from the wide draw. Circuit Number One improving all the time with race experience and one to bear in mind for exotics. Fast Pace will be suited by the rise in distance and can run well after two promising runs thus far.
Race 5: Monkey Jewellery had genuine vet excuses last start and can improve in this race. Honest Way well supported last start, fair run, good chance to improve in this race with Purton taking the ride and his best form has always been in this grade. True Legend showed good speed to lead last start and gave a good sight. Barrier No 12 looks tricky on paper and needs luck. So Awesome best run to date was last start and appears to be improving, keep in mind. Happy Victory never far away from the winner and could sneak a place.
Race 6: Thou Shall Sing was an easy last start winner and must be respected. Has been the subject of big betting plunges at this track and distance recently, so the market could be telling if soft late. Namjong Sings down in class in this race and should perform better, start following. Purton rides from barrier No 2. Wayfoong Charmer looks a solid good chance based on last start, Moreira picks up the ride and another win looks near. All Best Friends old-timer who is racing in good form and can run well from a low draw. Resolute is an improving type who is nearing a win.
Race 7: Mig Energy narrowly beaten last start and strikes a weak race where he appears a great chance to shed his maiden tag. Excellent Proposal well prepared for debut and looks to have good talent. Drawn wide but may prove too good with even luck. Falcon Turbo can improve second-up from a break in a race like this. Loriz showed good speed to lead last start and gave a good sight, will do the same from barrier No 1 and keep safe here. Private Council second start and will be fitter, debut run was fair but open to improvement in this type of race.
Race 8: Columbus County can improve second-up from a break after a strong finishing effort first-up. Should map ideally from barrier No 3 and a win looks near. Righteous Doctrine generally gets back in the running but dashes strongly home, Moreira jumps back on which looks a good sign. Nicconi Express goes well second-up from a break and should be respected, he looked in need of the first-up hit out but Moreira does not ride this week. Butterfield turned in a good run last start and must rated a good chance. Hello Daddy was an easy last start winner and must be respected.
Race 9: Delightful Laos racing well with excellent sectional time rankings, and there was plenty of merit to his last start performance. Cheerful Leader nice horse who is a model of consistency and looks a chance. Purton rides for the first time which could prove the winning move. Everyone’s Joy generally gets back in the running but dashes strongly home. Can be erratic, but has ability. Decisive Action go on the win two starts ago and give a chance here. Easy Go Easy Win has a chance based on past form in this class of race, capable of surprising.
Race 10: Winning Dreamer highly promising galloper who appears a great chance to win despite rising in class. Without a doubt the one to beat. War Of Courage racing consistently of late and expect another big run and is the obvious danger to Winning Dreamer. Storm Warnings turned in a very nice debut run and looks to have good ability, open to much more improvement second-up and bear in mind. Baltic Whisper caused a surprise last start when winning at big odds, needs to repeat the dose however. Metro Warrior having third start and may improve here, and Purton rides again.
