Scottsville meeting abandoned

Scottsville meeting abandoned

After a protest from the jockeys and an inspection of the track, the balance of Saturday’s race meeting at Hollywoodbets Scottsville was abandoned.

Rain fell over the Pietermaritzburg course and after Race 4 a decision was made to move the rails in order to avoid the poor going.

However, after the running of the Track And Ball Derby, the jockeys protested.

The course was inspected and was found to be uneven in places and the balance of the meeting was called off.

The Track And Ball Derby over 2400m was won comfortably enough by 7-4 favourite Marchongontogether, ridden by Warren Kennedy and trained by Gavin van Zyl.

He beat It’s My Turn (7-2) by 1.10 lengths with Dark Moon Rising another 0.80 lengths back in third. Eyes Wide Open was another three lengths back in fourth.

No announcement was made as to when the meeting will be completed as the Derby and Track And Ball Oaks gave some runners the opportunity of still qualifying for the Vodacom Durban July. Final declarations for the Greyville showpiece on Saturday 25 July take place on Monday.
