CHAMPION JOCKEY ZAC PURTON
Luke Middlebrook: Race-by-race analysis of Wednesday’s race meeting at Happy Valley, the final of the current season.
Race 1: Great Smart caught wide last start and still ran well. Bundle Of Energy last run suggested a win was very near but he will race for luck from a wide draw. Leading chance, however, and Purton rides. Turf Brilliant fair effort last start and looks a chance on current form and keep safe. Polymer Luck has a chance based on past form in this class of race and start following. Baby Storm video replay showed last run was good. Can surprise in this grade soon.
Race 2: Oversubscribed will win in this grade very soon and barrier No 2 gives him every chance here. Forget last start and focus on prior Class 4 runs at this track and distance. La Bomba placed last start and looks a chance to run well again, especially having drawn barrier 1 for 10lb rider C L Chau. Fairy Floss showed good speed to lead last start and gave a good sight, will do the same. Bandy ran the fourth fastest sectional time last start and is improving after a stable change. Vital Spring has ability and should not be underestimated in this grade.
Race 3: Sell My Sole narrowly beaten last start after being caught in the final stride. Jumps from barrier 1 and looks very hard to beat from there. Honest Way recent runs have been encouraging and can run well. Purton remains on board and he gets his chance. Happy Tango eased early before going on to make late ground, improving and has to be considered for exotic bets. Power King can improve second-up from a break. Never far away and Cruz’s runners are in good form. Everbrave badly checked last start and then weakened, forget the run.
Race 4: Incanto Prepared finished powerfully with fastest sectional time ranking last start for a massive run. Party Together will win in this grade very soon and he has to be considered with Purton in the saddle first time. Universal Go Go has been placed last two starts and deserves a win soon, in good form for in-form trainer Lui. Happy Ichiban was an easy last start winner, albeit in Class 5, and must be respected. A genuine improver after blinkers were added. Lucky Missile made up ground last start and is racing well. Lightweight chance.
Race 5: Kinda Cool looked unlucky when being held up at a crucial stage last start. Jazz Steed well supported last start and won accordingly, looks capable of heading higher in the handicap but will race for luck from the draw. Happy Good Guys an on-pace runner who could finish in the placings and is well-weighted under Chau’s 10lb claim. Hero Time reaching peak form and can go close here. Home Made can surprise at odds now he has dropped in the ratings and shown improvement in recent starts.
Race 6: California Rad holding form with recent good trial after an impressive last start victory and looks well. Only concern is the wide draw, but he has defied that in recent starts with his tactical speed. High Rise Soldier had excuses last start, pulling up lame, and forget the run. Looks a big improver with Purton taking the ride. Loriz a fast beginner who can run well if he finds an easy lead. Flying Bonus dangerous frontrunner who can be hard to catch, could very well go close from barrier No 2. The Runner form is good and must be rated a solid chance down the bottom of the weights.
Race 7: Alpha Hedge well supported last start and won accordingly, very hard to beat on that performance and gets barrier No 4 as well as Purton remaining on board. Shamport looks overdue for a win and enters this race in good form. Bear Again a last start winner who trialled well since. Will map well from barrierNo 2 and his tactical will hold him in good stead here. Cinquante Cinq looks a chance if you go on previous consistent form after he raced flat last start. Red Elysees had betting support last start and where there is smoke there is fire.
Race 8: Star Shine well supported last start and won accordingly. Purton sticks with the horse, gets barrier No 2 and will be hard to beat from there. Shining Gem last start winner who remains in the same grade but rises in trip. Very hard to knock on form and keep safe. Sunshine Warrior always finishes close up and must be rated a chance at this level. Barrier 1 should ensure a good run in transit. Solar Wai Wai had excuses last start when racing wide without cover. Butterfield narrowly beaten last start and goes close here.
Race 9: Victoriam racing in career-best form and must be rated the one they all have to beat. Despite racing wide last start, his class got him over the line. Winning Method racing consistently of late and expect another big run but draws wide. Waldorf generally gets back in the running but dashes strongly home, looks for him late. Encore Boy never far away from the winner and could sneak a place, more than capable here. Shining Ace always finishes close up and must be rated a chance at this level. Had excuses last start when he was slow into stride, can improve on that.
