OUR PRIZED JEWEL

Jack Milner: Trainer Brett Crawford seems to have a very nice filly in Our Prized Jewel and she can notch up her third win in four starts when she lines up in Race 5 at Kenilworth today, a MR 91 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m.

With the Pick 6 and Jackpot One carryovers at Saturday’s meeting, this filly will provide bettors with a very nice banker.

The Pick 6, which starts in Race 3 on this eight-race card, gets a R250,000 kickstart and is expected to reach R2 million. Jackpot One starts in Race 4 and has a carryover of R50,000 and a likely net pool of R600,000.

Returning from a four-and-a-half month break, this daughter of Duke Of Marmalade, who turns four today, easily disposed of her opposition, beating Winter’s Awakening by two lengths over 1400m at Durbanville.

It is not that easy to come from off the pace on the fast Durbanville track but jockey Greg Cheyne managed to wind her through the field down the inside of the track. She hit the front inside the 200m mark and then burst clear of her rivals to win easing up.

She was given a 3kg penalty for that win but should still have a few lengths to spare over the handicapper so that is unlikely to bother her.

Neither is the additional 200m. On breeding she should easily see out 1600m and perhaps, even further. She is out of top broodmare Our Table Mountain and she won over 2000m. Cheyne takes the ride once again and he will be delighted to be jumping from barrier No 1.

If you’re looking for runners to include in Exactas, Trifectas and Quartets then look no further than Cruise Along and Crusade’s Promise. Cruise Along came back from the lockdown break in a FM 90 Handicap over 1400m and flew up late to catch Crusade’s Promise on the finishing post.

Her next start was in the Listed Ladies Mile but she did not run well.

It could have been the ill-effects of her second race after a layoff but she is better than that. Most importantly, she is reunited with jockey Aldo Domeyer who rode her when she won her previous start.

Crusade’s Promise is now 0.5kg better off which should bring them close together. Oswald Noach rode her last time and trainer Vaughan Marshall has elected to keep him on this five-year-old daughter of Crusade. They will jump from barrier No 2.
